Somehow Yeats has made it to his 3rd Birthday!! This boy has always lived fast and plays hard; I always feel I'm living on the edge when in his company. It's been an exciting journey to watch him develop and grow from a hell raising adolescent to what I hope 🙏 is a more mature minded adulthood....Happy birthday Yeats 😄🥰

At Combined Canine International Cara, Ir Ch Riverrun Everybody's Friend, was awarded Green Star Bitch, Best Veteran in Breed , Best Of Breed and Group shortlist under Judge Mr N Jovanovic.
She finished the day by Winning Best Veteran in Show under Judge Mr G Krishnan, ( Malaysia).

Riverrun Hemingway at just 12 months passed his JAS assessment of natural hunting ability last week. Particularly nice comments from the assessors on his friendly temperament and use of his nose when hunting.

Lovely news from the UK Chesapeake Bay Retriever Club. At their annual trophy awards. Yeats was awarded Top Dual purpose dog/ bitch. Huge thanks again to his breeder Claudia Breitgoff for entrusting us with this wonderful boy.

Although not a new concept, it is new for me. Teaching a specific command to go left and a command to go right. Useful if your dog is behind an obstacle in a trial or working test. Starting with hand signal ( which he knows) and chosen command, then working towards just the command. Yeats is grasping the concept well. In the coming days we will add in different locations and scenarios to see how it transfers.🤞

Today, we at Riverrun are grieving the loss of Nitro. Taken from this world just over a year when she entered it.
Nine days ago she was a happy, energetic young dog when she developed a fever of unknown origin. Despite the best efforts from her incredible vets the infection did not respond to treatment and on Saturday evening, her owner Claudia Breitgoff , made the correct but heartbreaking decision to let her go.
Rest in Peace sweet Nitro, you lived life like the force of nature in your name and left your mark forever in our hearts.xx

The memory retrieve.
This simple excercise packs so much in. Broken down into it's individual components, the memory retrieve provides a great cornerstone from which to build all retriever work.
It teaches " wait" as the memory is placed.
Heelwork when walking away.
Straight line to the fall.
Trusting a hand signal.
Including a hunt up whistle when in the area of the fall.
Delivery to hand and of course confidence because the dog learns to trust that where you point them they will find a retrieve.
All of the components can and should be worked on separately to begin with and distance adjusted to the dog's capability.
The real beauty of this excercise is that although it is technical each part can be fine tuned and changed to encourage the dog without knocking it's confidence.
