🐾 RENTING WITH PETS IN IRELAND — WHAT’S YOUR EXPERIENCE? 🏡

Have you ever struggled to find a place to rent because of your pet? 💔🐶🐱

For so many people across Ireland, pets aren’t just animals — they’re family. But when it comes to renting, finding a home that welcomes them can feel nearly impossible.

Many renters tell us they’ve had to:
❌ Hide their pets
❌ Turn down homes
❌ Delay adopting
❌ Or in heartbreaking cases… give pets up

At the same time, there are responsible pet owners who take great care of their homes and would happily follow rules, pay deposits, or provide references — yet still face blanket “no pets” policies.

There are some positive changes expected in parts of the housing system, but for most private renters, having a pet still depends entirely on landlord permission and individual house rules.

⚠️ Dog owners: Storm Dave is coming – here’s how to prepare 🐶🌬️

Storm Dave is set to bring strong winds and heavy rain across Ireland this weekend, with warnings issued nationwide.

Dogs — and of course other pets too — can become anxious or unpredictable in storm conditions. Strong winds can quickly turn normal routines into risky situations.

Here’s what you need to know:

🚶 Walk early, avoid peak storm times
Get walks done before conditions worsen. Avoid parks, beaches and wooded areas during high winds.

🌳 Watch for hazards
Falling branches, debris and unstable trees are real dangers — even in urban areas.

🦮 Keep dogs on a lead
Sudden gusts or loud noises can spook even well-trained dogs.

🏠 Secure your home & garden
Check fences, gates and anything that could blow around or create escape routes for pets.

🐾 Bring pets indoors
No dog — or any pet — should be left outside during severe weather.

😟 Help with anxiety
Close curtains, reduce noise where possible, and stay calm. Some pets may need extra reassurance.

💧 Dry & warm afterwards
Wet, windy conditions can chill dogs quickly — especially smaller or short-haired breeds.

⚡ Be cautious after the storm too
Debris, broken fencing and hazards can remain even when winds ease.

🐾 Beware of Ticks in Ireland! 🕷️🇮🇪

Tick season is here - and it’s longer than most people think.

From March right through to October, ticks are active across Ireland, with the highest risk between May and September. Whether you’re walking your dog, letting your cat roam, or enjoying the outdoors yourself, it’s important to stay alert.

🌿 Where are ticks found?
Ticks love:
• Long grass & overgrown fields
• Woodlands & forest trails
• Coastal paths & rural areas
• Anywhere wildlife (especially deer) are present

🐶🐱 Why should pet owners care?
Ticks can carry Lyme disease, which can affect both pets and humans. Early prevention is key - especially during peak months.

✅ How to protect your pets:
• Check your dog or cat after every walk or outdoor adventure
• Use vet-recommended tick prevention treatments
• Pay close attention to ears, neck, belly & between toes
• Remove ticks promptly and safely

🚶‍♂️ Simple tips for you too:
• Stick to clear paths when walking
• Wear long trousers in grassy/wooded areas
• Use insect repellent if needed

💡 Did you know?
Ticks don’t jump or fly - they wait on grass and latch onto passing animals (or people). That’s why even short walks can carry a risk.

🐶 The 5-Minute Rule

No matter what kind of day you’ve had…

Walk through the door and give your dog just 5 minutes.

No phone.
No distractions.
No “just a second”.

Just you and them.

Because to your dog - those 5 minutes are not small.

They’re everything.

The excitement.
The tail wag.
The jumping.
The pure happiness just because you came back.

We get busy.
We get tired.

But to them?
You are the best part of the day.

Every single day. 🐾

🍀 Every Irish Dog Today… 🐶

Running through fields like they own the country 🇮🇪
Jumping in puddles (even when they shouldn’t 😅)
Stealing food when no one’s looking
Barking at absolutely nothing
And somehow… being the best part of the day.

From long walks in the countryside
to short spins around the block —
today belongs to them too.

Because no matter where you are in Ireland…
there’s probably a dog nearby having the time of their life. 🐾

⚠️ Top 10 Dog Dangers in Irish Homes

Most people think of danger as something outside the home, but in reality, many of the biggest risks to dogs are right in front of us every day.

Common foods like chocolate, grapes, onions, and products containing xylitol can be extremely toxic, even in small amounts. Cooked bones can splinter and cause serious internal damage, while everyday cleaning products and medications can also pose hidden risks if left within reach.

Outside the kitchen, simple things like an open gate, a damaged fence, or easy access to a busy road can quickly turn into dangerous situations. Dogs are naturally curious, and it only takes a moment for something to go wrong.

Small objects around the house, such as toys, socks, or household items, can also be swallowed, leading to choking or internal blockages.

The reality is that most of these dangers are preventable. Taking a few minutes to check your home environment and being aware of these risks can make a huge difference.

If you’re ever unsure about something your dog has eaten or been exposed to, it’s always safest to contact a vet immediately.

🚍 Big Change Coming: Dogs on Public Transport in Ireland?

Ireland may finally be moving toward clearer rules for pets on buses, trains and Luas.

The National Transport Authority has launched a public consultation on allowing pets to travel under a single, national policy across all services.

What’s being proposed:
• Small dogs could travel in carriers (on lap or floor)
• Larger dogs may be allowed on a lead and muzzled
• Dogs could be refused during busy times
• Guide and assistance dogs remain fully allowed

Right now, rules are inconsistent — some services allow pets, others don’t, and it often depends on the driver or operator.

Why this matters

For many dog owners, this is a big deal:
• Getting to the vet without a car
• Travelling for emergencies
• Making public transport actually usable for pet owners

This could be a major step toward a more pet-friendly Ireland.

But there are concerns too
• Safety and comfort of other passengers
• Space on already busy services
• Responsible ownership (leads, muzzles, behaviour)

🚨 DID YOU KNOW?

Ireland is now considered the puppy farm capital of Europe.

Up to 30,000 dogs are exported every year into illegal markets across the UK, Europe and Asia.
And when backyard breeding is included, that number may rise to over 100,000 dogs.

Behind those numbers:
• Female dogs kept in terrible conditions
• Constant breeding with no rest
• Puppies treated like products, not lives

This isn’t rare. This is happening right now.

We need to stop supporting this system:
• Don’t buy dogs from unknown sellers
• Don’t pay deposits
• Always choose verified rescues or responsible sources

This only continues because people unknowingly fund it.
