Hi all,

I was hoping you might be able to throw some attention on the concerns of many in Ireland, regarding the treatment of animals at Ashton Pound, Dublin.

There is a page set up called Ashton Pound Concern Group.

https://m.facebook.com/groups/592163461122321/?ref=m_notif¬if_t=story_reshare

There is also a Petition for it's closure.

http://chng.it/NZ6DrwrC

There are so many horror stories, too many to list.
Have a read through the page, which is a public page, and you'll see just some of the stories.
Look up the name itself, Ashton Pound, and see the articles that appear.

It has been described as a concentration camp for dogs and it is currently under a criminal investigation for the unlawful death of dogs.
This is ongoing for years.

Please help the concerned general public, to force it's closure and push for better treatment of dogs and all animals throughout Ireland.

Anything you can do to help would be appreciated.

🙏🏼

Lots of reports of dogs bolting out of fear of the fireworks, with some dogs refusing to leave the house 😔 Please be extra mindful this Halloween. Just because the noise of the fireworks don't affect you, they can have a detrimental effect on your dog. Mind your furbabies everyone 🐕

We love our four-legged friends here at the Hole in the Wall. So much so, that we are delighted to announce that we are dedicating one day a week to man’s best friend! Introducing Dog De Déardaoin, the Hole in the Wall pub is now a dog-friendly environment every Thursday! So, bring your pooch and shelter from the Irish weather.

We do kindly ask you to adhere to the following when visiting the Hole in the Wall with your furry friend:
1. Keep your pooch on a lead at all times.
2. If you encounter someone with a guide dog or assistance dog, shorten the lead so that your dog can not reach over to sniff and greet the guide dog or assistance dog, essentially distracting them from their work of keeping their owner safe.
3. Encourage your dog to sit alongside your feet or under the dining table. It is important your pet does not block the way.
4. It may be beneficial for you to carry some of your dog’s food, alternatively ask if we have some dog treat samples to reward them for being a good doggy.
5. If you have a small dog you may consider picking him/her up and carrying them in your arms when passing by someone with a guide dog or assistance dog.
6. It is important to still respect others and we encourage good doggy-etiquette
7. We will gladly welcome well-behaved dogs back every Thursday!

EVERYONES WORST FEAR
Hi, I for one cannot sleep most nights from seeing all the photos on all the lost and stolen dog pages of beloved and treasured pets being ripped from their Families by thieves.

Dog theft is at it's highest because these horrid people have been out of work through Covid-19.

So here are some simple but vital tips I hope you find helpful:

Please make sure your dogs microchip details are properly REGISTERED and are up to date. If you have changed phone number, home address or ownership of the pet please update it online.
* I ask my vet to scan everytime I go in for a visit (which might be twice a year), at first just in case I hadn't done it properly and ever since just in case there is ever a computer glitch on the other side.

It is also a legal requirement to have an ID tag on your dog and where possible I would suggest you have 2 contact numbers in case one person cannot answer the phone when needed.

A vital piece of information for your dog tag is to state "I AM NEUTERED". This has resulted in many dogs stolen being left far closer to home than without it.

Photos: My dog has some very unusual markings under his coat so I have taken photos of these when he has been groomed so I have extra proof of ownership.

If you have to leave your dog home alone ask a a trusted neighbour or neighbours who you know will be home for that duration to keep an extra eye on your house.

Please familiarise yourself with all the current lost and found dog pages on social media.
* As I come across a new page I write it down.

If your dog is lost or you feel stolen ALWAYS ring you local Garda Stations immediately. They are very invested in this problem and I have seen from various pages that a lot of stolen dogs have been returned due to the Guards efforts.

If you are engaging with and or paying professional dog walkers to walk your dog for the first time please ensure you research them in GREAT detail or better still invest in Daycare such as us or those anywhere in your home/work vacinity. Again, please research these well. The Daycare industry in Ireland are very respectful of each other and we all help one another in any way we can.

Please be vigilant at all times of who is watching or interacting with you while you are walking your dog, they may be following you home.

As we all head back out into the world albeit school runs, work, socialising etc. this is when these dispecible people put their plans on place.

This post is not intended to scare anyone but to help as sometimes the simplest of things or things we may never have thought of can either prevent or stop this absolute heartache for both our dogs and their Families.

And I beg if you are reading this to please share these tips on your social media pages and by word of mouth.

We are all taking great measures to keep us humans safe, let's do the same for dogs.

Thank you for reading and sharing.
Ann.
