Beads are back... Apparently?!...seeing ALOT of styles reminiscent of the early 00s out there. Beaded necklaces and gemstones galore. I'm not sure I'm ready yet but I'll give it a whirl!

We are beginning a very special project for one of our fav multi-retailers so I've been going through old beads and gemstones we have in the studio. No joke my studio is a bit of an aladdins cave so step 1 is to root out some materials to use.

I came across these old resin samples i purchased many moons ago not to mention the faceted quartz beads.

I used to travel a bit for work and I'd always hunt out a jewellery supply store or even antique store for components to use/Inspiration so we have alot of matetials in the studio.

This big navy resin rondelle was a sample from an very well reknowned Italian jewellery company (they do the jewellery for one of my all time favs Marni!), their quality is exceptional and they manufacture locally so yes they are not cheap. I picked up the samples at a tradeshow in Paris YEARS ago hut bever found a use for them...yet...

But now as part of our committment to sustainability we have decided to rework some past season styles into a new, updated collection.

In this way the precious materials that have been so hard to come by originally can be reinvented into something new.

The challenge is to use what we have on hand as well as the salvaged materials from the past, discontinued lines which means that whatever we make will be very limited edition.

Giving a moment of appreciation to our gorgeous, bejewelled, statement huggies (...if that is even a thing?!😆 )

The Constellation Mini Hoops are small, delicate and comfortable to wear. Delicate enough to layer with your other piercings but still have a little something "extra" going on to make them special if you want to wear them on their own.

Crafted in precious metal (Sterling Silver with a thick layer 2.5 microns of 14kt yellow gold a.k.a Vermeil) and encrusted with tiny, dark cubic zirconias they are inspired by the magical Nightsky and the Yeats poem "The Cloths of Heaven."

This was a very limited run. We had 30 pairs made. We have just a few left to sell online and the last remsining pairs headed to today for a few of their gorgepus stores.

We are often told by the retailers we work with that we get considerably less returns than many similarly priced brands we sell alongside.

The reason for this is that we invest in superior materials and the more we learn about making jewellery the pickier we have become about the materials we want to use.

That said in the name of sustainability we also encourage our customers to get pieces repaired or return for recycling where possible.

If the damage is just general wear and tear from frequent wears and no longer covered by our 12 month warranty we now charge a small amount to do the work. You'd be surprised how much work goes into even a small job between doing it, cleaning the pieces, liasing with couriers, etc. And return postage costs us in excess of 10€ now...

Some people are very happy to be charged, some are most definitely not happy?

What do you think is a reasonable rate for parts + labour + (Gov tax/Vat)+ return postage in this economy?

To put it in context our studio is in The Digital Hub in Irelands capital city, so rent is high among other rising costs.
Also I consider myself a professional after almost 2 decades in the retail/design industry, a degree in Commerce, a diploma in Design and numerous certs in Art, Design as our my employees similar educated "professionals".

This month I paid €1000s for legal advice.
I also paid alot to an accountant for financial advice.
I also paid considerably for teeth cleaning (...even though if I use the jewellery warranty logic I only had it done a few months prior) and had a few very, very short GP visits at 90quid a pop.
I paid an extremely low rate per hour to my childs afterschool.

So my point is why do we accept high rates from some professionals but expect a low rate to others?

Cant help but wonder does it stem from the old patriarchial idea of womens work? Or that working with your hands is "less" or even is it (a family member said this to me recently) creative work being a privelge you can't expect to get paid well as it's not real work?...Glorified hobby hence undervalued?

Love to hear your thoughts both as customers, workers or fellow creatives/small business owners?

Exciting news!

After many requests and enquiries, we have just launched a new collection of rings!

We are so excited to finally explore this slightly daunting category...(so many size variations, so much wear and tear with soap, washing hands, hand sanitiser...you get the idea!!!)...

This new collection "Nightsky" is about capturing a feeling - that quiet awe you feel when you look up at the stars. We wanted to translate that poetic beauty into jewellery that feels timeless, meaningful, and just a little bit otherworldly!

We love them and hope you do too!
