**JUDGE WANTED**

Sadly one of our judges isn’t able to make it Saturday so we are looking for someone to step in!

No experience needed as this is a fun dog show… just a love of dogs 🐶 must be available from 10:30 for a few hours.

We are all so looking forward to the summer festival starting next week!

The dog show will be on Saturday the 26th of July @ 11am in the tennis court at the community hall!

Categories are:

Best pup
Best old timer
Best dressed
Best junior handler
Best handler
Best rescue
Beat coat
Best trick
Best in show (winner from each categories is entered in to best in show)

We also have DJ LMC on the morning!

Very excited for the Ballinspittle Summer Festival again this year!

The Dog Show will now be at a better day & time Saturday the 26th @ 11am in the Tennis Court.

No pre-registration this year, just show up with your furry friend, pay and that’s it!

We will also have a DJ on the morning 🎶

I hear a lot of people talking about the cost of dog grooming and always looking for a cheaper groomer. But I’d like to explain a few things to you.

This is what I hear a lot of:
“God, it’s expensive isn’t it?”
“Why do they charge so much?”
“Crikey I couldn’t be spending that all the time, I’ll find somewhere cheaper”
“XYZ out the road doesn’t charge that much”

Now, hear me out. Would you say these things to your hairdresser? Your beautician? Your nail tech? Your barber? All of these who you visit every 4-6 weeks...

You wouldn’t question €50 for a wax that takes 15 minutes would you? 2 hours to get a wash, cut and blow-dry for a €80-100? €55 for nail refills that take 1.5hrs? No… No you wouldn’t.
You wouldn’t ever say these things to their faces. And you know what happens when you get cheaper? You get what you pay for.
The cost of dog grooming is what it is because we are dealing with live animals. YOUR live animal. The fur baby that is your family member, best friend, sidekick. This is the little living breathing fur ball that you’d be lost without and we are trusted to look after them during their time with us.

But we are dealing with animals who don’t understand “can you tilt your head back there slightly for me, thanks”. “Can you stop trying to eat me and my equipment, thanks”… “Please don’t p**p on the table again, Thanks”.
These are animals who move, jump, fidget, tap dance all over the table, whimper, howl and sometimes like to take a snap at us. And they don’t understand p**ping on the table is not allowed, peeing all over the salon is not allowed. Peeing on ME is not allowed… yes, it has happened. It’s not a pretty job. We don’t just sit around and play with cute dogs all day. It’s an extremely difficult job. We are using very sharp scissors and clippers on animals that are not guaranteed to stand still. Imagine your hairdresser trying to give your hair a nice trim and you’re dancing like Michael Flatley around the place… That’s pretty much what it’s like at times.

As groomers we have spent thousands on our careers (as well as on rent, equipment, supplies, maintenance which is through the roof). We have spent years learning animal behaviour, up-skilling and being as knowledgeable as we can be so that YOUR dog is looked after in the best way. There are many courses out there that are cheap, and that’s where you will find your cheap grooms. But their knowledge and expertise won’t be a patch on a groomer who has poured their heart, should and bank account in to their career. Just the same as your beautician has, or your nail technician.

So when you question the cost of grooming it might be wise to take all this in to account. We are not just The Help. We are trained professionals doing a very difficult job. We adore all of your dogs as if they were our own and treat them like they are ours for the time they spend with us. We learn their likes, dislikes. We spot lumps and bumps before most of you do. We know when something is wrong as their skin will tell us a lot about what's going on with them. We learn to read their body language and communicate with them without words.

Please be kind to your Groomers and respect what they charge for their hard work. They are doing a lot more than you think 🐶❤️

Are you looking for a career change? Do you have a passion for working with dogs? Why not consider a career as a Dog Groomer! I offer private, one to one training for Beginners.

The course will be for those with little or no previous experience who wish to find a career as a dog groomer within a salon or to become self employed.

You will get the best 1 to 1 training with me and I will teach you everything you need to know to get you started in your career…from actual grooming, health and safety, animal behaviour, to the business set up, marketing and social media set up!

I will provide you with continued support throughout the course and when you are finished for as long as you need! 🐾

Once the course is completed you will be able to groom on your own and you will be ready to set up your very own business! That is my guarantee.

I have over 10 years experience in grooming and I am a qualified QQI level 6 tutor. I’ve had over 30 students and 98% have gone on to open their own salons or work in a grooming salon.

Grooming is an amazing career that allows you the flexibility to work when you want and where you want. It is an excellent career choice for anyone, especially those who have families and are finding it difficult to find work that suits the hours they are available. As a single mum of two myself, grooming has allowed me the flexibility to earn money while still being there for my little ones!

The course is flexible but will require a minimum of 2 days per week in Ballinspittle, Co. Cork (Mon-Friday) for 8 weeks. You choose the days! Dogs will be provided for the training and of course you are welcome to bring your own if you like ☺️🐕🐾

Please ensure all pets are safe & secure from tonight as the storm is rolling in during the early hours of Friday morning. If your dogs are outside and you’re unable to bring them in, make sure their kennels, huts, bedding are secure and well covered. There could be a lot of falling trees and debris due to the high winds.

The morning updates are out for , and the readings are grim!

Coastal areas in the West are expected to see the worst of the winds, with gusts in excess of 180 km/h. Mace Head will likely record the strongest winds, followed by Belmullet, Finner, and Malin Head. Our own weather station could also feature prominently—if it survives!

Coastal counties are forecasted to experience gusts exceeding 140 or even 150 km/h.

Further inland, gusts exceeding 130 km/h are expected in many areas.

Please please keep your pets warm and safe tonight. We feel the sudden drop in temperatures which means they do too. Make sure if they are outside tomorrow their water isn’t frozen and they have access to a warm place to lie down. Unless you own a husky… then they are gonna be in heaven 🤣🐶
