With Ireland experiencing record-breaking May temperatures, extra care is needed to help pets stay safe in the heat ☀️🐾

Dogs and cats can overheat much more quickly than we do, especially during exercise, travel, or time spent in warm cars and enclosed spaces.

During warmer weather, we recommend:
🦮Walking dogs early in the morning or later in the evening
💧 Ensuring pets always have access to fresh water and shade
🚫Avoiding leaving pets in parked cars, even for a short time
🥵Watching for signs of overheating such as excessive panting, lethargy or distress

Cooling and travel essentials are also available from our Small Animal Health Shop in Clonakilty and online at www.mclaughlins.ie 💙

The first warm spell of the year has arrived in Ireland ☀️

As temperatures begin to rise, pets can feel the change in weather more than we do. Choosing cooler times of the day for walks, providing shaded rest areas, and using cooling support where needed can all help keep pets comfortable during warmer weather.

Cooling mats, travel essentials, and other warm weather products are available from our Small Animal Health Shop in Clonakilty and online at www.mclaughlins.ie 💙

We are absolutely thrilled to introduce Katie, our newest Veterinary Nurse!

Katie is a Clonakilty local who knew from a very young age that she wanted to work with animals, even completing her school work experience in the field to get an early start. Since graduating as a veterinary nurse in 2012, she has built up a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion that she now brings to our practice.

When Katie is not caring for your pets, her love for animals completely takes over her free time! She is a talented artist who specialises in beautiful pet portraits, is a huge bird lover, and is a proud owner of her own gorgeous Lurchers!🐕🦅🎨

We are so lucky to have her on board! Please join us in giving Katie a massive welcome by leaving a message of congratulations in the comments below! 👇

Our small animal veterinary team recently enjoyed a Lunch & Learn session with focused on veterinary nutrition.

Continuing education is an important part of staying up to date within the veterinary industry, and we appreciated the opportunity to learn and discuss current nutritional approaches.

Thank you to Marguerite from Royal Canin for an informative and engaging presentation, and to for the beautifully catered lunch.

Itchy skin, hair loss, ear irritation or overgrooming? Allergies in cats can manifest in many ways 🐾

Cats are often very good at hiding discomfort, so changes in grooming, skin, ears or coat condition can sometimes be one of the first signs that something isn’t quite right.

Recognising the signs early can help keep your cat more comfortable and prevent irritation from progressing further.

As part of our Ditch the Itch campaign this May, we’ll be sharing more information on recognising and managing allergies in pets.
