Tinsel is surprisingly strong and can become lodged under/around the tongue and can act as a tournique cutting off blood supply to the tongue, if swallowed it can also cause choking or intestinal blockage.

Symptoms of tinsel ingestion in dogs and cats may include vomiting, loss of appetite, and changes in behavior. If wrapped around the tongue, it can cause them to claw at their mouth, excessive drooling, and distress trying to remove it.

The Department of Agriculture, food and the Marine have issued a compulsory housing order for poultry and captive birds to protect them from the risk of avian influenza has been announced.

The new rules include anyone who even has just a few hens for eggs/company etc. Anyone with canaries or other type of birds that possible have avaries outdoors. All now need to be house inside for their protection and to stop the spread of Avian Influenza.

The new rules will come into effect on Monday, 10 November 2025.
