Thank you so much to everyone for your kind words over the past week — we truly appreciate your support.
We’d absolutely love to see photos of all the gorgeous fur babies who have found their forever homes through BAR! Please share your happy snaps with us — they mean the world.

We’ll start things off with Amy, who was found in a cardboard box with her siblings, and Princess, who was discovered wandering up the back of Meenbanad. Despite extensive searching, we never found her owner. These two beautiful girls are now living their very best lives with us — and we couldn’t be happier!

With Deep Sadness – Burtonport Animal Rescue is Closing

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Burtonport Animal Rescue. After many years of dedication to rescuing and rehoming animals in need, we are no longer able to continue due to several challenges, including a lack of volunteers and funding. Additionally, the recent Storm Eowyn caused severe damage to our facilities, including the loss of our stables and significant damage to our cattery.

This is not a decision we made lightly, and it is truly heartbreaking to bring this chapter to a close. However, we want to take this moment to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported us over the years.

To our incredible donors and volunteers—we simply couldn’t have done this without you. Your generosity, time, and dedication made it possible for us to save and care for so many animals. Whether you donated food, supplies, or funds, or spent your days cleaning, feeding, transporting, or simply showing love to the animals—you made a difference. Your kindness gave so many animals a second chance at life, and for that, we are forever grateful.

A special thank you to Ramelton Shore Vets for their unwavering support and excellent veterinary care. No matter the hour—day or night—they were always there when we needed them, providing emergency treatment, expert care, and kindness to the animals who needed it most. Their dedication and compassion have been invaluable to our rescue, and we will always be grateful for everything they have done.

We also want to express our heartfelt thanks to SuperValu for hosting our pet food donation bin in the early days. Without their generosity and the kindness of those who donated, we simply would not have been able to support as many animals as we did.

A special thank you as well to Animals in Need and Twin Towns Lost and Found for your ongoing support and kindness throughout the years. Your help has meant the world to us, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

Though Burtonport Animal Rescue is closing, the love and care we’ve provided will never be forgotten. The animals we’ve saved, the connections we’ve made, and the community we’ve built will always remain in our hearts.

From the bottom of our hearts—thank you. ❤️

Is anyone missing a collie craghyboyle
Message received

Hi , not sure who to message about this or where to post it to . There has been a black collie/lab with a white chest lying dead on the side of the road in craghyboyle on the straight stretch just before dungloe this past two daysh and it still has not been moved. I’m sure some poor family is wondering where this poor doggy is . If you could let me know who to get in contact to or if you could post it to your page it would be greatly appreciated . I took a photo of the dog also if needed for identification 😢.

February is FIX IT FEB.

AIN wants to make a MASSIVE push to encourage people to get their pets booked in to get neutered NOW..

For the 1st week of February (3rd-9th of February), we will cover the cost of 10 pets spay/ neuter per day. That's 70 pets in total( this is separate from our usual subsidized neutering)

This is a perfect time of the year to get your cat neutered before the mating season really gets going.

Dogs are in season throughout the year, so this is a good time to get them done, too.

Getting either cats /dogs/ rabbits neutered or spayed can save your pet’s life by protecting them from several cancers/ infections/ danger of giving birth and from adding to the overpopulation crisis we are seeing all over Ireland. The fact is that too many kittens and puppies are born every year, and there just aren't enough homes for them all.

Most calls we get from people looking to surrender kittens or puppies are from people who didn't plan the pregnancy, but the only way to make sure this doesn't happen - neutering/ spaying!

TERMS & CONDITIONS:
-Requests to avail of this offer must be made via PM or WhatsApp, and include your name, address, preferred vets, and pet to get neutered / spayed.

-Max 1 pet per household

-Applicants must reside in Co. Donegal

-Cats/ rabbits neuter/ spay is covered to a maximum of €100 per cat / rabbit

-Dog neuter / spay is covered to a maximum of €150 per dog

-This offer is only open to private people and not open to people associated with other rescues.

-10 people will be selected at the end of each day during this week from that day's application. This is not based on first come/ first served.

-The pet must be booked into the vet clinic during this week, 3rd-9th of February, and the actual operation must be completed by the 28th of February

-The following vets are included, and the cat/dog must be booked into one of the following clinics:

Old church vets
Seaview vets
Bluestack vets
Donegal Veterinary Clinic
Ramelton Vets
Susan roulston
Carn Veterinary Clinic.
Anne Scott, Carn
Mulroy Vets
Letterkenny Small Veterinary Clinic

No application till next week please.

FOUND CROCKNAGEERAGH DUNGLOE DO YOU RECOGNISE THIS LITTLE 1

Hi I’m based in Crocknageeragh Dungloe, this large kitten, small cat arrived today. Looking a bit worse for wear but not injured, just generally dirty eyes & coat etc. female, I’d guess around 4 months old. It’s sleeping in my garage & has been fed, my dog & cat are very unimpressed 😂
Have messaged the neighbours, nobody claiming her. If you could share please. Weather awful, will provide her a bed & food over weekend but not able to keep her.
Thanks

Happy New Year—let’s make it a safe one for everyone, including our furry and farmyard friends.

💔 NEW YEAR’S EVE IS TERRIFYING FOR ANIMALS IN IRELAND 💔

As we prepare to ring in the new year, it’s important to remember that this is one of the most distressing nights for all animals across Ireland, including pets and farm animals.

Fireworks, both legal and illegal, are already being tested in many areas. The sudden loud noises can send animals—pets, horses, livestock, and wildlife—into a state of panic. Tragically, this often results in animals running away, breaking through enclosures, getting injured, or even losing their lives.

Farm animals, such as cattle and horses, are especially vulnerable. Loud fireworks can cause them to stampede, injuring themselves or damaging property in their desperate attempts to escape the noise.

Let’s do everything we can to protect all animals this New Year’s Eve.

Here’s how you can help keep animals safe and calm:

For Pets:
1. Keep them indoors: Ensure your pets are safely inside. Close all windows and doors to reduce the noise. Even a small rearranged space inside is safer than leaving them outside to face the noise and risk of injury.
2. Secure your home: Double-check that doors, gates, and fences are secure to prevent escapes.
3. Distract and comfort them: Use calming music, TV, or white noise to muffle fireworks. Provide treats or toys to occupy their minds.
4. Stay with them: Your presence offers reassurance. If you can, stay close to your pets during the night.

For Farm Animals:
1. Bring them to safe enclosures: Where possible, bring horses and livestock into secure areas, such as barns or stables, to shield them from the noise.
2. Check enclosures: Inspect fences, gates, and pens to ensure they’re secure. Animals in panic can break through weak spots.
3. Reduce visibility of fireworks: If possible, block their view of nearby fireworks to minimize stress.
4. Reassure them: Spend extra time with nervous animals and keep routines as normal as possible.

Let’s all be extra mindful of every animal this New Year’s Eve. With a little care and preparation, we can save lives and ensure a safer start to the new year for all.
