Tick season is upon us!
Is your pet up to date on tick prevention?
Today Piper was in for her second vaccine. Now that she is fully vaccinated she can socialise and go for walks. She looks forward to strolls in the forest park. Ticks are more common is wooded and grassland areas but can occur anywhere in Ireland, in both rural and urban areas. As the temperatures rise, ticks become more active. Ticks can carry and spread Lyme’s disease.
Bob also got his Bravecto today. It also prevents fleas and mites and lasts for 3 months.

A rescue kitten story with a happy ending ❤️..
This little kitten was brought into us by a Garda. She was only a week old, malnourished and had very bad cat flu. Our vet Alice took her home, bottle fed her, gave her antibiotics and nursed her back to health.
A couple of weeks on she is flying it. She was named Connie and she now lives happily with her big brother Camille 🥰
Swipe to see Connie happy out and in full health now 🥰

The antics of Flo. Last week Flo was sedated for some X-rays. She is still getting used to walking on the lead and while over excited around the sheep, she got in under her owner’s feet and got stood on! Thankfully nothing is broken and she is recovering from a soft tissue injury with some anti inflammatories and rest.
Puppy X-rays can be more challenging to read due to growth plates but we were relieved to see all was normal on the X-rays of her left hind leg and pelvis.
You might spot Flo resting here in the office.

Spooky Season is here 🎃👻💀 Benji is quite happy to dress up himself but like many cockapoos he is an anxious soul who can suffer at this time of the year and is not a fan of trick or treaters! We are here for advice on how to keep your pet feeling content and safe this Halloween.
Some tips include:
🎃Provide a safe calm environment for your pet 🎃Make sure your garden is escape proof. Anxiety and fear can lead to pets running away 🎃Exercise: make sure your pet has had plenty of walks and used up any excess energy which can make anxiety worse. Exercise releases dopamine which makes your pet feel more content and reduces stress. 🎃Microchip: make sure your pet is chipped and details are up to date so if they do wander there are higher chances of being returned safely
🎃Noise: Use music or the tv to muffle outside noise which may frighten your pet
🎃Supplements: if your pet is still very anxious we can give you advice as to which supplements may help

This week’s biggest most challenging surgery was Oscar. He is a fan of eating all sorts and this week we had to operate to remove a very large sock from his intestines! His intestines were quite badly damaged and if it had not been removed on time it could have been fatal. Today he was back in to get his wound checked and to get a bigger cone so he cannot lick his wound.
He would like to spread the word to other doggos out there to be careful with what they chew and swallow 😆

A little insight into what Flo gets upto in her spare time. Learning the ropes of gathering sheep and starting to get the hang of her first basic command “lie down”. She loves to cosy up in her little house at the end of a long day 🥰🐑🐾 You might spot Flo sitting up behind reception here at Green Vets on some of her lazier days 🥰
