Another warning today to please be careful! It’s still hot now and with the weather expected to turn to thunderstorms many pets may become frightened and run away. So please ensure you keep them safe and inside and if your out driving remain vigilant for a panicked animal running across your path!

We have a thunderstorm warning from 2pm and unfortunately these usually lead to numerous posts reporting missing and stray dogs. Missing and stray terrified dogs.

Please keep your pets safe and take a few moments now to:

Check your fences and gates

Put your dog's collar on and ensure that their ID is visible

If your dog has no ID get a permanent marker and write your number on their collar. This simple action will reunite you quickly if the worst happens.

Make a safe space in your home for your pet and play soft music or television. Provide any toys or activities that will be a positive distraction (and could even start an association between storms and fun!

If you find a stray dog, send us a photo and location

Report to the dog warden

Arrange to chip for a microchip

Ask local vets, rescues and community groups to share.

Ensure that the owner has proof of ownership before reclaiming.

Be very careful in the heat today with your pet! Heatstroke can happen very easily in these conditions and can be fatal!

❄️Here are some tips for keeping your pet cool and safe in the heat:

💧Make sure there is plenty of fresh water available both inside and outside.

🌳Make sure there are plenty of shaded areas available outside.

🌞Don’t exercise your dog excessively, a short leisurely Sunday stroll will be sufficient! Bring water for the stroll also!

🐈Pets with longer costs are particularly susceptible to overheating , so should be monitored for heat exaughstion and given access to cool areas to hide away from sun

🐶Make sure white cats/dogs or those with pink skin on their ears or nose are kept out of the sun or use pet friendly sun block as they are more prone to sun burn. (Particularly important for cats!)

⚠️ Reduce playtime, especially with kittens and puppies as they will be more likely to overheat
