☀️⚠️ HEATSTROKE IN DOGS CAN TURN CRITICAL VERY QUICKLY ⚠️☀️
This beautiful girl, Scoobie the Boxer, arrived to us as an emergency yesterday evening suffering from severe heatstroke with a dangerously high temperature of 41.2°C 🌡️🚨
Our vet Loreto and veterinary nurse Maryann immediately jumped into action to help stabilise her — administering IV fluids, placing her on oxygen, and working quickly to bring her temperature down safely
Thankfully, Scoobie made a full recovery and was able to go home today 🏡❤️🐾
We would also like to stress that this happened through absolutely no fault of Scoobie’s owner 💕 Heatstroke can develop incredibly quickly and unexpectedly, especially during warmer weather 🌤️ and in brachycephalic breeds such as Boxers, Bulldogs, Pugs and French Bulldogs 🐶
⚠️ Signs of heatstroke include:
🐾 Excessive panting
🐾 Drooling
🐾 Weakness or collapse
🐾 Vomiting or diarrhoea
🐾 Bright red gums
🐾 Disorientation
🐾 Seizures
☀️ Please help keep your pets safe during warm weather:
💧 Always provide fresh water and shade
🌅 Walk dogs early morning or late evening
🚗 Never leave pets in cars
🐕 Avoid strenuous exercise in the heat
🧊 Use cooling mats, damp towels, or paddling pools where appropriate
⏰ If you suspect heatstroke, seek veterinary attention immediately — every minute matters ❤️🐾
