🐾☀️ HEAT STROKE WARNING FOR PET OWNERS ☀️🐾
With exceptionally warm weather forecasted this week, pet owners need to be extra vigilant. Met Éireann has issued a nationwide high-temperature warning, with temperatures expected to reach the mid to high 20s and potentially close to 30°C later this week.
Temperatures above 25°C can be dangerous for many pets, especially dogs, rabbits, elderly pets, overweight pets, and flat-faced breeds such as Bulldogs, Pugs, and French Bulldogs.
🚨 Signs of Heat Stroke
Watch for:
🐶 Excessive panting
💦 Excessive drooling
😰 Restlessness or distress
❤️ Rapid heartbeat
🤢 Vomiting or diarrhoea
🦵 Weakness, wobbliness, or collapse
🧠 Disorientation or confusion
🚑 Seizures or unconsciousness
⚠️ Why Heat Stroke Is So Dangerous
Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency. A pet's body temperature can rise rapidly, causing:
❌ Organ failure
❌ Brain damage
❌ Blood clotting disorders
❌ Death if treatment is delayed
⏰ Every minute matters.
🆘 If You Suspect Heat Stroke
1️⃣ Move your pet immediately to a cool, shaded area.
2️⃣ Offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water.
3️⃣ Pour cool water over the body, especially the tummy, paws, and neck.
4️⃣ Use fans if available.
