Storm Éowyn
During the harrowing days of Storm Eowyn, now a week already behind us, an extraordinary display of strength, resilience, and compassion could be witnessed around the country. It is with the deepest gratitude that we want to acknowledge the selfless work and dedication of all the ESB, council, and emergency workers. Their unwavering commitment ensured the safety and well-being of countless families, providing a beacon of light amidst the storm’s darkness.
But there is a group of unsung heroes in our midst: our Farmers
Despite facing enormous losses and destruction on their own farms, these resilient individuals went above and beyond to support their community. They cleared away fallen trees, ensuring that roads were passable for emergency services. More impressively, they delivered water and food to families in need, often navigating treacherous conditions to do so.
The farmers’ selflessness and community spirit are a testament to their unwavering dedication and resilience and the true Irish spirit. Their actions not only provided immediate relief but also fostered a sense of unity and hope during an incredibly challenging time.
So, the next time a slow-moving tractor or a herd of sheep crossing the road inhibit us reaching our next appointment in time we hopefully remember that these hard-working women and men had no problem neglecting their own imminent needs and work to come to everyone’s aid. And as a lot of households are still without electricity and water each and everyone of us should take a leaf out of the farmers’ handbook and see where we can help! And I am proud and glad to call Ireland my chosen home as the Irish spirit is still alive!!!!
