一齊聽 Sarah 主人 Eva 分享，了解針灸如何幫助 Sarah 康復。
Eva 在 2023 年 10 月首次發現 Sarah 出現頭部傾側。經獸醫初步檢查後，懷疑為前庭系統問題。雖然不少病例顯示，情況會隨著時間自然改善，但當時治療的選項有限，獸醫建議暫時觀察。
後來，Eva 帶 Sarah 到 Peticare 珍寵西九龍動物醫院求診，並在獸醫建議下嘗試針灸作為輔助治療。
Sarah 開始每星期進行一次針灸治療。到第三次治療時，Eva 已經留意到 Sarah 的頭部傾斜開始減輕。到第四次治療後，頭部姿勢明顯改善，平衡能力更穩定，步態亦更穩健。
由於 Sarah 已經 16 歲，屬於高齡犬，因此Eva決定以後持續進行保養性針灸治療，幫助維持活動能力、舒適度及關節健康，概念與人類長者的保養護理相似。
獸醫針灸屬於中獸醫（TCVM）的一部分，常與西獸醫治療並行作為輔助療法。針灸透過刺激特定穴位，調節神經系統，並促進身體自然修復反應，包括釋放內啡肽（endorphins）及改善神經肌肉功能。
Persistent head tilt? What to do?
Let’s hear from Sarah’s owner, Eva, on how acupuncture supported Sarah’s recovery journey.
Eva first noticed Sarah developing a head tilt in October 2023. After an initial veterinary examination, she was told it was likely a vestibular condition. While many cases improve naturally over time, treatment options were limited at the time, and she was advised to monitor Sarah’s condition.
Seeking further support, Eva brought Sarah to Peticare West Kowloon Animal Hospital, where acupuncture was recommended as a supportive therapy. She decided to proceed with the treatment plan.
Sarah began acupuncture sessions once a week. By the third session, Eva noticed a visible reduction in the head tilt. By the fourth session, Sarah’s head position had improved significantly, her balance had become more stable, and her gait was noticeably steadier.
As a 16-year-old senior dog, Sarah continued with maintenance acupuncture sessions to support mobility, comfort, and joint health—similar to integrative care approaches used in senior human medicine.
Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) and is commonly used alongside Western veterinary medicine as a complementary therapy. It works by stimulating specific points on the body to help regulate the nervous system and promote natural healing responses, including endorphin release and improved neuromuscular function.
