Why this litter?
Kennel Oenomel was established to bring in the world the puppies that I would love to live and work with. This litter (and every other that possibly will take place) is made with the intention to keep a puppy for me. Knowing well what I need and having the half of the equation in my home, I searched and found the other half: Freyja and Crux present the qualities expected in their bloodlines, plus they have excellent health.
Puppies are expected to have high prey and play drive, medium to rather high food drive (both parents will work for dry kibble), and tolerate stressful conditions. They should have clear mind while working, with an off switch while being at home. Crux is excellent with other dogs and humans, super friendly and relaxed. Freyja’ s predisposition towards stranger people is sceptical for a second. Once introduced, she enjoys petting and hugging. She is indifferent to other dogs and will only show her dislike to pushy dogs with growling. She is a fighter over her food though: training was needed to make her calm eating near other dogs. Some pups are expected to inherit this characteristic, but should be easily overcome it with my instructions.
Crux has not been tested on sheep but I felt it was a low risk for me who want a herding dog: his pedigree is full of dogs with herding heritance and his father has showed some good qualities when tested. Freyja on the other side, even with me making a number of mistakes due to my inexperience, she developed into a skilled herder.
Both dogs are tall, slim, with strong bones. Their athleticism is remarkable, being fast and agile. Maybe little slow to mature, special exercise for leg coordination will benefit those pups practicing agility. Freyja’ jumping style was goofy at first but improved naturally without us working regularly. Crux has a nickname indicative of his character: he is the “nerd”, offering behaviours eagerly and pushing for more.
Health of the dogs in the pedigree is carefully watched and the necessary exams were took place. Crux scored excellent in hip, elbows and OCD. He was too young for proper evaluation of spondylosis, so the week before mating we checked his mothers spine to see if she had anything bad to inherit and she was found perfectly fine. Freyja scored excellent in hips, elbow, OCD and spondylosis. Due to a number of unfortunate events, she has not her DNA been tested yet, but there are zero chances the pups having any of the detectable diseases because Crux is free of every single one of them, including EAOD.
The looks of the pups will be uniform, as of their parents: red, possibly tricolours, shorthaired with semierect ears, with tall athletic bodies.
