To say we are overwhelmed is an understatement.
We had 35 dogs without a chip and within one hour we have raised the funds for all but 8 of our dogs.
You are all truly amazing.

We know many of you will have been watching and waiting for more information on the situation.
It has been a difficult week for Stavroula, ringing around for help and advice. Looking for places to board the dogs if the worst came to the worst.
We have discovered that the problem has been caused by a local lady who had put in a complaint about a small rescue place in the city who took in a few stray dogs at the request of the mayor. We have now been dragged into it just because we are in the same location.
If Stavroula is found to run an illegal shelter she will be fined 10000 euros and given six months to empty the shelter.
Numerous phone calls and speaking to the veterinary service who were due to do the checks they have confirmed the complaint was not about us and they may not have to do our check, he was sympathetic to the cause realising we would not pass the strict new regulations and is giving us a little breathing space.
We realise that we may have been given this life line but it is only temporary and we need to start planning ahead to move, as it will be almost impossible to make our present location legal.
Stavroula purchased a piece of land ten years ago and got permission to build a shelter on this land. The cost of this shelter made raising the funds to build it beyond our reach.
But now we must relook at this field and see what we could achieve on a smaller budget.

In the meantime this week we will be getting all our dogs chipped to Elpida. Previously we have only chipped the dogs once they were leaving but with this hanging over us we need to follow as many of the new rules and regulations as possible.
Each dog who is not yet chipped will cost us 20 euros for chipping and registration.
Our vet has agreed to do this at cost price for us to help out.
If anyone would like to sponsor one of our dogs for the chip we would be very grateful

How on earth do people think these dogs are not loved and cared for.

Please can you keep up with the photos on the other post so we have them all together.

Meanwhile Stavroula is working harder than ever trying to keep our dogs safe. We will keep you posted.

An update for our supporters.
Stavroula is searching a place to take the dogs. This may mean we have to pay kennel fees for them for a few days.
If the Mayor keeps to his word we can then bring them back.
This, however, will be a temporary solution, we need to find a place to move to away from the constant threat of being closed down.
It would be a dream to find a small farm or small holding to rent or buy so we can make sure Stavroula never goes through this again
We will keep everyone informed and will run an emergency fundraiser if we need to find boarding fees for the dogs 😢

I spend all morning running from one service to another trying to find out a solution but there is nothing that can be done. Monday (8-6) the shelter must be empty from all dogs!! Tuesday 9-6 they will come from the veterinary service to measure all the cages and check all i wrote in my previous post. The mayor and his team although they are more than greatfull, as they say for whatever Elpida Shelter of Hope is doing for the city strays, they can't risk being convicted of a criminal offense for operating an illegal shelter in their city. The only solution is by Monday 8-6-2026 afternoon all the dogs to be out of the shelter so the next morning when they come from the veterinary service the employees to write that the place had no dogs. I can't even imagine the stress and the agony of my poor babies when they find themselves inside trucks and get transfered by strangers to places they dont recognise. 😭💔
When the "storm" stops said the mayor we can return them back...
One mistake and if any of them escapes i will never find it again like my poor Poly that got lost in Athens from a stupid pet taxi driver 😭😭

URGENT REQUEST TO ADOPTERS OF ELPIDA DOGS

Please send photos of your adopted dog in a loving home and words of support. We have a fight on our hands to keep our shelter 😢

For the second time my shelter is being attacked by an "animal welfare federation in Greece" and the Mayor of the city demands that I evacuate the shelter!! A team from the regional veterinary service will come on Tuesday for an inspection. They are obliged to draw up a report in conjunction with the Law on Legal Shelters where it will be seen whether I meet the requirements for legal operation of a shelter. It goes without saying that this is not the case. And it goes without saying that I do not have an operating license. So by law my shelter must stop operating permanently.If animals are found in the area, the Mayor will face criminal and legal sanctions because the law prohibits the operation of illegal shelters. Therefore, he demands that all animals be removed, even temporarily, until the inspection is complete.
On Friday, I will make an effort to meet with the Prosecutor who is handling the case and I will ask her to give us a reasonable extension of time until I find a solution and transfer my animals somewhere.
Please, anyone who has adopted dogs from my shelter can upload photos to the page and write a few words of support so that I can show them to the veterinary service and the Prosecutor. Thank you very much in advance.

Total still to be raised to pay off this months invoice in full.

It would be more than we ever thought was possible if we can do it. We just need to try. Falling behind one month and it’s not long before we get seriously behind.

We are so truly grateful to everyone who has donated so far. You are all incredible.
We just hope someone new may join the Elpida family and hep us reach our target.

I don’t know if it’s even possible but it won’t happen if we don’t ask.
We are still £650 short

Without you we would be no where near our total bill of 4332 euros.
