Wow! We’re amazed by how much our community has grown over the last year and we’ve just reached 50 thousand followers🤩🤩🤩
This makes a BIG difference for us and the community. The growth makes us more visible which again means more funds to support and help all of our four legged friends with medications, day to day care and procedures! And it means a lot to the TNR program as we’re able to help even more strays and educate our community about why this is such an important matter!

🆘 MISSING CAT IN POSEIDONIA 🆘
Misty has been missing from home for two days, she lives around Limni appartment, close to Fetouri beach.
She usually wanders around for a half hour but comes back to her home straight after.
She is a fluffy long haired tabby with a fluffy tail, looks like a Maine C**n.
She is micro chipped (registered in France) and neutered but doesn’t have a collar.
She is a bit shy but friendly once she knows you.

We’re happy to share the lovely words of Céline, manager at Blue Bergamote Syros
Céline contacted us concerned about a new cat with a catastrophic injury in a colony she helps to feed. Freddy needed a limb amputated and is recovering well at Syros Cats. So far we have sterilsed 21 cats in the area. We have more to do when the weather cools, the tourists leave and the money comes ! We are always TNRing as much as our donations allow and are awaiting funds from the municipality.
If you want to support our TNR project please donate. €40/€50 will sterilise a male/female with parasite treatment and you’ll receive a photo of the cat you paid for (if you give permission to be contacted and provide contact details, we can’t contact you otherwise !).

Syros Cats wishes to extend an ENORMOUS thank you to the wonderful child who raised over €900 for us. She didn’t expect any recognition, she only wanted to help. She is staying on the island for a while, so witnessed first hand the plight of strays on Syros and the lucky few who are helped by Syros Cats and many concerned individuals. But we are not enough! We continue our mission whilst awaiting real help from local government to have a lasting impact.

Between herself and her mother they did a fundraiser selling homemade products and offering photo shoots. This is the biggest donation we have received in a long time. It has gone directly towards our vet bill. Helping with surgeries for Grumpy and Freddy, (wait for our newsletter for more on that!) plus parasite treatment and sterilising surgeries for our kittens and strays.

We are incredibly grateful you chose to help us. Please help us thank her.

A municipality in northern Greece is introducing a financial incentive to encourage the adoption of stray animals. The Municipality of Pylaia-Hortiatis announced that residents who adopt a stray dog or cat through its official municipal animal management program will receive a 10% reduction in municipal fees.

The initiative aims to help tackle the growing stray animal population while promoting responsible pet ownership. Municipal officials say the program rewards citizens who contribute to a humane and sustainable solution for the issue of abandoned animals.

Mayor Ignatios Kaitezidis described the measure as a pioneering step, emphasizing that citizens who provide homes to stray animals help reduce the burden on municipal services and improve animal welfare.

Under Greece's adoption procedures, adopted stray animals are also sterilized, a key measure aimed at reducing future populations of abandoned dogs and cats on the streets.

Animal welfare organizations have long argued that adoption and sterilization programs are among the most effective ways to address Greece's stray animal problem.
