Summer is a busy time for us. There are many unwanted and abandoned kittens to care for. A reminder of how important our winter sterilisation programmes are. And we get a lot of cries for help from tourists who find sick or injured cats that need help. There are not many of us, so we are not always able to respond.
But recently we were sent a photo and a location of a sweet boy, living in a taverna, with what looked like an abscess on his face. Luckily one of our cat guardians in the area was able to collect the cat and bring him to us. We made him comfortable but he didn't want to eat, even when tempted with freshly cooked chicken.
Sadly not all our interventions have a happy ending and after tests and x-rays, this sweet boy was diagnosed with a massive inoperable tumour. We are a no kill rescue but in this case we had no choice but to euthenize him.
Animal rescue can be overwhelming and emotional - it's not only about cuddling cats.
RIP sweet Bubble Face. No more pain...
