Care shelter for protection of stray or injured animals in the area of Gouves, Crete. Καταφύγιο για την προστασία αδέσποτων και τραυματισμένων ζώων στις Γούβες. The base can be found,between Gouves and Kokkini-Hani,on the old national road, just follow the signs to the aquarium. If travelling by public transport get off at bus stop number 9.

Η Βάση βρίσκεται ανάμεσα στις Γούβες και το Κοκκίνι Χάνι, στην παλαιά εθνική οδό. Μπορεί κάποιος εύκολα να το βρει απλά ακολουθώντας τις πινακίδες για το Ενυδρείο ή αλλιώς απλά να κατέβει στη στάση 9, αν χρησιμοποιεί λεωφορείο.

Tiki was born in February 2026 and initially lived in one of the shelter’s foster homes. He was found together with his siblings in a small village, without their mother and with no safe place to go. Fortunately, the siblings were rescued just in time and brought to safety.

At the moment, Tiki and his siblings are still cautious and unsure around people. However, they have already learned to trust their foster mum and are friendly and open towards her. New surroundings, unfamiliar situations and everyday noises can still make them feel insecure.

Tiki and his siblings are young puppies who have only known life on the streets and in their foster home so far. They need time, patience and a gentle, understanding approach to build trust and learn that people do not mean them any harm.

For Tiki, we are looking for a patient and loving home where he will be given the time he needs to settle in and develop at his own pace. With kindness, consistency and plenty of reassurance, he will have the chance to grow into a wonderful and loyal companion.

A long video from Niki, but full of important updates and reality check on our current situation.

In short:
🆘We are closing our gates to newcomers for 3 months
🆘We need electricity and water
🆘We can not continue with these numbers

We have the capacity to take care of 200 animals, but right now we have more than 350 in the shelter, foster homes and paid dog hotels. As an emergency step we are closing our gates to newcomers, because we do not have a single free space anywhere and adding to already bursting numbers would make us shut down. Our vet debt and reality at the shelter is just not substainable. For the next 3 months, please bare with us as we try to get things under control and our numbers lowered.

Our shelter has been working without electicity and running water for a few years now, but we can no longer continue as is. The total price for getting electricity and water pressure is 20 000, but we already have 3000 of that amount covered. We need everyones help to get to the goal and to make sure our shelter can continue.

Every one of our animals were in dire need of help and without our help they would no longer be with us. In order to keep our shelter clean, hygienic and disease free we need electricity and water. Please help us fundraise for solar panels and pressure system, so that we can continue to help the animals and give them new lives as loved family members.

Henry was born in March 2026 and was found together with his brother Spencer and his sister Akira. Since then, the three siblings have been living in a loving foster home on Crete.

Around his siblings, Henry is a typical happy puppy: playful, curious, full of energy, and always ready to explore. Nothing is safe from his curiosity, and he loves discovering the world around him.

When meeting people, Henry can be a little reserved at first and needs a short time to build trust. Once he feels safe and comfortable, his sweet and playful personality begins to shine.

Henry gets along very well with other dogs and also lives happily alongside cats.

He is looking for a patient and loving family who will give him the time, guidance, and security he needs to grow into a confident and happy companion.

Zina was born in August 2024 and is a rather small young dog who still has plenty of youthful mischief in her.

When someone enters her kennel, she can become very excited and may mouth or grab at hands and arms. This is not meant aggressively, but comes from overexcitement and typical adolescent behaviour. She still needs to learn how to greet people calmly and appropriately.

Zina currently shares her kennel with another female dog who sets clear boundaries when Zina becomes too pushy. Zina responds well to these corrections and usually adjusts her behaviour after a clear reminder.

Outside the shelter, she is still easily overwhelmed by new sights, sounds, and smells. At the beginning of a walk, she can be very excited and overstimulated, but as the walk continues, she gradually becomes calmer and is better able to regulate herself.

Like several other dogs at the shelter, Zina came from a previous owner who had taken in many dogs but was no longer able to provide them with adequate care due to financial and living circumstances.

Zina is a bright, energetic young dog who is still at the beginning of her development. She is looking for patient and experienced people who can offer her clear guidance, consistency, and plenty of positive training. With the right support, structure, and time, Zina has great potential to grow into a wonderful companion.
