Care shelter for protection of stray or injured animals in the area of Gouves, Crete. Καταφύγιο για την προστασία αδέσποτων και τραυματισμένων ζώων στις Γούβες. The base can be found,between Gouves and Kokkini-Hani,on the old national road, just follow the signs to the aquarium. If travelling by public transport get off at bus stop number 9.

Το καταφύγιο βρίσκεται στην παλιά αμερικάνικη Βάση, στι

ς Γούρνες Κρήτης. Μόλις 100 μέτρα από το ΕΝΥΔΡΕΙΟ.

Η Βάση βρίσκεται ανάμεσα στις Γούβες και το Κοκκίνι Χάνι, στην παλαιά εθνική οδό. Μπορεί κάποιος εύκολα να το βρει απλά ακολουθώντας τις πινακίδες για το Ενυδρείο ή αλλιώς απλά να κατέβει στη στάση 9, αν χρησιμοποιεί λεωφορείο.

She was found tiny, fragile, and in pain — her eyes so badly infected that one could not be saved. The other was at risk too, but thanks to fast rescue and urgent vet care, her sight was spared. Without that help, she would have been completely blind, left to survive alone on the streets with no future.

Kittens like her deserve more than a life of suffering. They deserve safety, care, and the chance to grow up loved. Please, please, please keep supporting our work so we can be there for the next animal in desperate need. Together, we can end the suffering on the streets and give them the futures they deserve.

Fostering saves lives, and right now we need fosters more than ever. We have many newborn puppies and young dogs who cannot be brought to the shelter because they would get sick, and without fosters we cannot take in more animals in urgent need. If you can foster for a few weeks or months, whether it’s a playful puppy, an older dog, a sick or recovering dog, or even a cat or kitten, you can make an enormous difference. We cover all costs, so all you need to provide is a safe space and care.

Fostering helps animals adjust to home life, makes them easier to adopt, gives us better chances to find homes with photos and videos, and allows us to rescue more. Right now, fosters are critically short, and it’s holding us back from saving lives. Please, if you can, open your home to a foster and help us change their future.

Lucky Pebbles has been adopted into a loving home, and her family shared their experience of meeting her and choosing to adopt. Adoption stories like hers show how a single decision can change a life and open the door for more rescues to follow. There are still many dogs at the shelter waiting for that same chance, ready to be seen, chosen, and brought home. Please consider adoption and help create another happy ending just like Pebbles.

News of the week: a strong heatwave has been affecting the island, making it tough on both animals and the people caring for them. Volunteers and rescue workers are doing their best to keep everyone safe, but it is important for everyone to leave out water, food, and shade for wildlife, stray animals, and pets. Heat strokes are dangerous and can happen quickly, so even at the shelter we have to take extra care to keep the animals cool and hydrated and avoid daytime walks.

This week has otherwise been steady, though we remain completely full. New emergencies have come in, but thankfully no lives have been lost. Unfortunately, with no space left and a long waiting list, we cannot take in more animals unless fosters become available, which is a real challenge. There is also ongoing discussion about how shelters and animal welfare are approached, and we hope to see positive changes in the future. The video shows more about this week’s situation and the steps we are taking to keep the animals safe during this time.
