FERMENTED CARROTS, A SOURCE OF PROBIOTICS FOR DOGS.

INGREDIENTS: Fresh carrots (about 6 of them), 2/3 teaspoon of salt, fresh water( 1.5 cup)
You will need an airtight container for this preparation. You can also use fresh yoghurt in place of salt.

1. Wash and cut carrots into thin slices.
2. Mix the salt and water to form a solution, if using fresh yoghurt, mix it with a half cup of water.
3. Put sliced carrots into solution and make sure they're fully submerged.
4. Close it with the airtight lid and store it at a room temperature for not less than 6 days.
5. After 6 days, bring it out and blend it with 1/2 of the stock water, preserve the rest of the water, you can use it in your next set.
6. Keep the blended mixture refrigerated, serve two spoonfuls on your dogs kibble or homemade food.

NOTE: Do not boil the mix neither should you serve it too cold.

PROBIOTICS

Do you know that there are good bacteria?
Have you heard of gut bacteria or flora?
All these relate to and the activities of good bacteria, humans and dogs benefit greatly from these guys and it is smart to have and support them in our system and that of our dogs.

Good bacteria help in digestion, fight off bad bacteria and balances the body, prevent inflammation and ensure a strong immune system, these are but a few of their contributions to our well being and particularly that of our dogs.

We get these good guys from probiotics such as yoghurt, and other fermented foods. In my next update, I will write on how to make fermented carrots and cabbage as a source of probiotics for your dog.
