Little Black Dog, Guernsey Rescue & Adoption

Little Black Dog, Guernsey Rescue & Adoption Why the name? Because they are the first to Die. Black dogs are just not popular in Spain, a very sad fact. However, we rescue dogs of all colours and breeds.

Little Black Dog Guernsey Rescue and Adoption (LBD) is a local dog rescue organisation which was created by Johanne Taylor and Sandra Hunter in 2016. In 2017 it became a Guernsey registered charity (CH563) and is run by a small team of ladies, with many more helpers behind the scenes. Our sole aim is to rescue abandoned dogs from Spain and we now work in conjunctions with SCAN (Society for the Car

e of Animals in Need) who are a registered rescue charity in Spain, who don’t only rescue dogs but cats also. SCAN take dogs and cats into their rescue shelter in Spain, often saving them from having to enter the kill stations. SCAN assess the dogs and provide rehabilitation if required and also bring the animals back to good health if necessary. They ensure that all the necessary veterinary requirements are undertaken under their supervision, in order for their animals to meet all medical requirements to be adopted in Guernsey

SCAN take care of all the technicalities, paperwork and travel arrangements in order to arrange the delivery of rescue dogs to their new adopters in Guernsey. All the rescue dogs are blood tested, vaccinated, neutered or spayed (if old enough), rabies inoculated, treated for worms, ticks, fleas and are micro chipped and vaccinated against Leishmaniosis. Both rescues work closely with the States of Guernsey veterinarian department and not only adhere to all the mandatory medical requirements regarding the importation of dogs, but also to additional tests and treatments which they suggest. Little Black Dog take care of the home checks locally and in conjunction with SCAN, the matching and suitability of dogs to new adopters and the final placement of dogs. We deal with all the adoption arrangements which need to be put in place, provide photos of your adopted dog and updates whilst awaiting arrival. We also provide follow up and assistance to any dogs placed in Guernsey if required. If you are interested in adopting a dog from Spain but would prefer to avoid all the complications that the medical and transport arrangements may face you with, please contact us on Facebook – Little Black Dog, Guernsey Rescue and Adoption. Even if you are only considering adopting a foreign rescue dog but still a little unsure, we will be more than happy to meet with you and go through the adoption process in detail.

HOME TO HOME REHOMING
This cheeky chappie is a gorgeous Coton de Tulear and although it’s breaking his current owner’s heart to part with him, unavoidably he needs a new loving home. He is 3 years old, in good health, neutered and all his vaccinations are up to date. He’s very friendly and affectionate, lively and loves his walks and playing with a ball. He has experienced living with children 5+ and can be left alone for short periods of time and would best suit someone that has no work commitments, as he has generally had company pretty much 24/7.
He can live with another dog but as he has lived quite a sheltered life and not had a lot of socialisations with strange dogs, he can be vocal, but not aggressive, when passing or meeting dogs at first. Once an introduction has been made, he is absolutely fine and without a noisy companion egging him on and one to one training to give him guidance and confidence, he should get over this quite quickly.
If you have a secure garden that he can play in and are home all or most of the day and you are looking for a happy little dog to love and be your companion, he may be just right for you and he will certainly love you back bucket loads. You must be confident and prepared to work with him towards his initial barking when he see’s other dogs to enable him to happily and confidently socialise with other dogs, to make his walks more enjoyable.
If interested, please inbox us and answer the automated questions you will receive. If you would prefer, please message your telephone number and I will give you a call. He is not a Little Black Dog rescue; we are just trying to help find him a new suitable and loving home on behalf of his owner.
He will require regular grooming in order to keep his coat in good order, as well as clipping from time to time.

You may have seen two little white fluffy dogs which the GSPCA had posted as a home to home rehoming. An amazing prospective home was found for them and although meet ups and a home visit, running around the garden with two other fluffy dogs they would be living with went well, unfortunately they failed their final test before going to their new home. The final test was to see how they were with the resident tortoise, which is the fastest tortoise I have ever seen when running towards his doggy friends. Sadly, whilst we thought they would be OK, a little too much interest was shown in the tortoise and obviously not wanting any possible risk of endangering the tortoise, or limiting the freedom he currently enjoys, the rehoming could not proceed.
The dogs are 3 years old and are not being rehomed for any fault of their own and although unavoidable, it has certainly not been an easy decision for their owner. Whilst the initial request was for them to be homed together, a difficult all round decision has now been made that it will be best to home them separately. Together they are extremely reactive to other dogs, barking loudly and constantly, although they are fine after an introduction has been made. They feed off each others reactions to the extreme and it’s felt they will be much better being able to socialise in public and interact with other dogs separately, resulting in less stress and anxiety for all concerned. This will also be improved with one to one attention and training.
Both dogs are fun, affectionate, lively and energetic and absolutely love playing with tennis balls. They have experienced living with children, though one of the boys may possibly be best suited to an adult only home with less noise and they are fine with adults and love attention. After introductions are made, they happily walk and interact with others dogs, so we feel they could possibly live with another dog, ideally a calm dog which will help show them the way.
They are not used to long periods of time alone and will both need patient and understanding owners who can give them the time and guidance they deserve to thrive. As small, fluffy white dogs, their coats require regular grooming and maintenance, including trips to the groomers, to keep them clean, healthy, and happy.
If you are home most of the day and feel you could offer one of these lovely dogs your love and assist them in their development, the reward it will give you will be endless. If interested, please get in touch and answer the automated questions you will receive. If you would prefer, please message your telephone number and I will give you a call.
For privacy reasons, no photos or names of the dogs will be shared online at this time and they are not LBD rescues. We are just trying to help find the right homes for these gorgeous boys.

Thank you everyone - all sorted now.

I am enquiring on behalf of one of our adopters, whether there is anyone that has availability to house sit or board 2 elderly and very well behaved dogs from 28th May, with the owners returning on 31st May. If you do have availability, please dm me and an indication of your rates would also be helpful so I can send your details on.
Many thanks
Tina

This chunky tub of love is Charlie. He sadly lost the love of his life when his owner sadly passed away and he desperately needs another human companion to share a comfy couch with and spend his senior years being loved again. He is 10 years old and now he is on a healthier diet at SCAN, with some slow and short exercise which he absolutely loves, he is already starting to lose some weight and is now a slimmer version than his photo shows.
If you need some doggie companionship and enjoy leisurely little walks and want a cheeky, happy chap to share your time with then Charlie is ideal and will shower you in love and loyalty.
As Charlie is used to company, you will need to be home most of the day and to have a little secure garden that he can enjoy a little wonder in and sit in the sun. If we can find someone that can open their heart to Charlie and give him a loving home again, he will come to Guernsey in mid April. If you think you might be that special person, please contact us for an application form. Following completion of an application form, a home check will be arranged, during which the full adoption process will be discussed in detail.
As with all our dogs, Charlie has been vet checked, Leish tested, fully vaccinated (including rabies), wormed and tick and flea treated. Charlie will also be getting his teeth cleaned shortly, so he has nice fresh breath ready for his cuddles.

This stunning young boy Blackie is looking for a new home. He is 2 to 3 years old and was originally adopted from SCAN as a pup. Whilst he has been in a loving home, his owner lost her job and is having to move some distance and reside in the Hotel she will be working at. Sadly she can not take him with her as it will not be suitable or permitted for him to live there. He is very playful and great with people and other dogs and thought to be a Pointer cross. He is good on the lead but has not received a lot of training, so he will need someone with the time to take on his training in order that he can reach his full potential, although he is very intelligent and quick to learn. He is currently 22kgs, although he could do with putting a little wight on and he will need a nice garden to run free in and receive plenty of exercise. As with all our dogs, we don’t home to families with children under 6 years of age and he will not be suitable for SHA properties. You must be able to demonstrate that any working commitments that you or your family have, still ensure that Blackie is not left home alone for more than 3 to 4 hours a day in total and you must have a secure garden with fencing of an adequate height. If we can find a suitable home for him, he can travel to Guernsey on the next trip which will be on 17th April. If you think you could offer this super chap the right sort of home to enable him to live a happy and active life full of fun and love, please contact us for an application form. Following completion of an application form, a home check will be arranged if appropriate, during which the full adoption process and fees will be discussed in detail. As with all our dogs, Blackie has been neutered, vet checked, Leish tested, fully vaccinated (including rabies), wormed and tick and flea treated.

We would once again like to say a big thank you to M & S at L’Islet and St Martins, for again allowing us to hold our flag day collections today. We truly appreciate your kindness in allowing us to do so, which enabled us to raise an amazing £1,480.55. Also, to our wonderful volunteers that gave up their valuable time to collect funds for the dogs and of course the wonderful public that donated so generously to our cause. We truly appreciate you all and every penny of this amazing amount will go such a long way to saving the lives of so many desperate dogs who need our help. x

We’d like to say a Very Merry Christmas and Happy and Healthy New Year to all our wonderful adopters. All dogs deserve to feel safe and loved and without you, they may never have known these feelings. Also, to all our supporters for the money you help raise and the generous donations you give. We couldn’t do what we do without you all. Not forgetting the amazing SCAN (Society for the Care of Animals in Need) in Spain and all their dedicated volunteers and foster families. They work tirelessly to save so many dogs and cats and provide them with comfort, love, safety and rehabilitation if needed, whilst seeking adopters. We truly send heartfelt thanks, love and gratitude to you all xx
