Ilkleyโ€™s owners came to me because she was becoming more worried and reactive around other dogs, especially when dogs came running up to her and her siblings.

I meanโ€ฆ imagine seeing 3 gorgeous Golden Retrievers ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿถ
Of course other dogs wanted to run straight over!

We worked through lots of calm confidence building exercises and strategies to help Ilkley feel safer and less nervous around other dogs.

We also introduced her to the wonderful world of ๐’๐œ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐คโ€ฆ and wow, Ilkley absolutely loved it ๐Ÿฝโœจ
She took to it so naturally and it quickly became such a brilliant tool for helping her out and about too.

We were then able to use Scentwork in their local park whilst other dogs were running around and it worked amazingly well for Ilkley โ˜บ๏ธ

So far weโ€™ve covered everything puppy related, plus the foundations of:

Today we even introduced whistle training and a stop whistle, which will be super useful as they live on a farm ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿถ

โœจ Another fantastic evening last night at Corners K9 Fields in Easingwold running our ๐†๐ฎ๐ง๐๐จ๐  ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ž๐ญ ๐ƒ๐จ๐ ๐ฌ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐’๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐Ÿพ

The dogs were all amazing ๐Ÿคฉ
And as always, our brilliant Abby, who leads these sessions, came up with even more fantastic exercises to keep the dogs engaged, mentally stimulated and working on ๐œ๐š๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ, ๐Ÿ๐จ๐œ๐ฎ๐ฌ and teamwork around distractions ๐Ÿ’›

I am a dog trainer, but I'm not just working with your dog - I'm working with you too ๐Ÿ’›

The tension in your shoulders before another dog appears on the path, the way you hold the lead a little tighter, the dread you might feel before a walk, rather than looking forward to one.

Your dog notices all of it, because if an owner is holding that lead tight with white knuckles and bracing for impact, that tension travels all the way up the lead and right back down again ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Dogs can't tell us they've had enough, so their nervous system just gets completely dysregulated, and the more stressed the owner, the more stressed the dog.
Like attracts like.

Which is why every session I run is as much about the person at the other end of the lead as it is about the dog, and why there are no expectations, no pressure, and no judgement - we work things out together ๐Ÿฅฐ

This is exactly what we work on together in 1:1 sessions. Not just teaching your dog new skills, but helping you feel calmer at the other end of the lead too ๐Ÿ’›

Ellieโ€™s owners messaged me just a couple of days after our first session to say theyโ€™re already starting to see some positive changes ๐Ÿคฉ

Sometimes little changes can make big differences ๐Ÿ’›
Small tweaks to routines, better understanding, lowering pressure and working at the right distance can have such a huge impact on how a dog feels.

Rememberโ€ฆ barking, lunging and pulling arenโ€™t โ€œbad behaviourโ€ โ€” theyโ€™re emotional responses.
Dogs like Ellie arenโ€™t giving us a hard timeโ€ฆ theyโ€™re having a hard time.

โœจ Ellie has also had a tough time physically and has already undergone multiple surgeries on her legs.

Pain and discomfort can have a huge impact on a dogโ€™s behaviour, emotional regulation and how safe they feel around the world around them ๐Ÿพ

So often, behaviour is more than โ€œtrainingโ€ alone โ€” which is why looking at the whole dog matters so much ๐Ÿ’›

A lot of our work is about helping dogs feel safer, calmer and more able to cope with the world around them.
