Many widely held beliefs about dogs focus on genetics or training alone, but early experiences matter greatly, too! A 2025 study surveying over 4,000 dog owners found that adverse experiences in a dog’s first six months of life, such as abuse or relinquishment, were significantly associated with higher fear and aggression scores in adulthood when compared to dogs without early adversity. Breed ancestry also strongly influenced how dogs responded to adversity.

Sometimes just a bit of advice before you get puppy home can be what makes the difference between a smooth and stressful time.

My love client send me this email today, following one of my puppy prep Zoom calls. I’m chuffed to hear how Fenrir is settling in!!

Fenrir has adjusted so well to our home! He is great in the crate at night and notifies us when he needs to potty. Only accidents have been because we were slow at getting him out. We're working on the crate during the day. Now that the boys are in school, it's much calmer for this. We've really been focusing on bonding/play right now and getting him use to the lead.

A few words from my lovely clients - parents of this gorgeous boy!

Hi Rae, just a little update on Milo....
He is transformed!!!! 🥰🤩. He is so much calmer, content, sleeping more, witching hour is down to about 5 minutes, which is a revelation!!!!
We've had no trouble getting him to leave the house either, I guided him with a piece of chicken once, and now he leaves without a blip. He's loving his stuffed kong (mini one) and kong giro.
He showed off in the oet shop today with how well behaved he was 😂, and his training is going really well. We can't thank you enough for giving us the confidence to help him. Xx

We should let our dogs be dogs and listen to them when they show certain behaviours.

Natural behaviour needs to be facilitated if our dogs are going to live interesting lives where they feel valued and fulfilled.

Anyone who buys pet products online, do not use the following company. After 7 days I have still not received what I ordered, have sent numerous emails (there is no phone number for customer services) and tried their messaging service on their website.
