🐶❤️ last weeks gorgeous hounds ❤️🐶
Lots of happy dogs, enjoying time with their friends. Puppies Cooper & Hannah are getting on really well. They are learning so much from the older dogs with regard to play and social etiquette. So important at this stage in their life to enable them to grow up into well mannered and social dogs.
I’m often asked how I handle the dog groups with all the different characters, breeds, sizes etc. Well, I’m now in my 14th year of doing this and the experience of all the different dogs that I’ve worked with over that time along with studying canine behaviour and body language means I can understand each dog quickly. I meet each dog in their home before I agree to take them on as I can see their behaviour with their owners as this is a clear indicator of manners and personality. If I think they won’t be a good fit, they don’t join the group. Mixing unsuitable dogs into an existing group dynamic would be dangerous and unprofessional.
They are then carefully introduced to the existing dogs, always meeting my oldest and in charge dog first. That’s Barkley, the best Labrador in the world! I monitor the groups constantly whilst we are out and can see changes in behaviour, for instance if someone’s play is getting too rowdy, and will step in to redirect the behaviour. My body language and communication with them is clear and fair. Barkley is also fantastic at supervising as he’s always watching and will wander over and just his presence is enough to alter a situation. This is why he is just the best!
I have a super bunch of dogs, watching how they interact with each other is fascinating. Watching the group dynamic is a great learning opportunity. Seeing friendships form. With me, they are allowed to be dogs, learn from each other, play, socialise and through my guidance they learn obedience and manners and respect that I am in control. This is how I can do what I do.
When choosing your dog walker or daycare facility, make sure they understand dogs behaviour and all the different breed traits. So many start up because they think it’s lovely being around dogs, it’s cute and fun. Believe me, it is! However, there is a serious side which ensures that your dog is kept safe. Choose wisely!
