Kate's Dog Walking

Kate's Dog Walking Please email [email protected] for more info. 3-6 dogs per walk. I have been working alongside dogs for over 10 years.

I am the owner of an 11-year-old Golden Retriever and an 8-year-old rescue Pug. Prior to working as a Dog Walker, I was a licenced Home Boarder for dogs, looking after dogs of different ages, sizes and temperaments. I have completed An Introduction to Canine Behaviour from Plumpton College and am committed to doing my best to keep up with current research regarding dog care. I have also completed

a Canine First Aid Course. Each dog has different needs. A lot of thought and care is given to relate to them individually in order to create a cohesive group. I want the group experience to be a positive one for each dog. This means that groups get to know each other very well becoming established and stable. Occasionally a new dog will join a group and if the "fit" isn't right I will speak to the owners about the way forward. Before a first walk with it's important to meet with you and your dog on a brief walk with my dogs. This is to have the opportunity to talk with you and to get a feel for which group may work well. Services offered:

Groups Walks - (3-6 dogs for hour long walks):

£14/ walk for an individual dog or £25/ walk for two dogs from the same household. Secure transit in air conditioned car with fitted crates of differing sizes in order to keep your dog separate from others when travelling. There is also a separate space that is not crated for those dogs who are nervous of crate confinement. Please note: When the weather is atrocious I will clean your dog(s) as best as I can. However it is not an exact science and there will be times when it is impossible to clean them off entirely. If you'd like your dog to be returned in pristine condition I am not the dog walker for you. Please email me at [email protected]

Or call on 07906 576909

I look forward to speaking with you.

Not many photos today I'm afraid, my attention was very much on Loki on the first walk and it was so much fun watching "the crazies" play that I forgot to take any!

Little Loki, who is on the green long line in this video, joined our Friday early walk three weeks ago. Due to circumstances he had learned to be extremely nervous of other dogs.

His pawrents are hoping that the right kind of exposure will build his confidence again so that he more easily trusts others.

So, after meeting Loki and his mum with my Mikey (pug in this video) we decided to introduce him to two or three trusted dogs each Friday at the same time. Two dogs will be the same ones every time, the third may be different.

We hope that exposing him to calm and friendly dogs (or, for that matter, those that simply choose to ignore him) in an outdoor setting will give him more confidence.

Today it was lovely to see him running along with his tail high and a little bit in love with gorgeous boy lab Baxter (who he met for the first time today).

High hopes, but, slowly, slowly, catchy monkey...

What a beautiful morning and lunchtime walk today. Even better when we shared some of our trail with Paula from Pawler's...

Relax and wait for dogs to come to you. If they don't come to you, go home and cry as you didn't get to pet them..🙂

A damaging myth surrounding dogs, particularly puppies, when they get to their new homes is that, if the cry, they should be left alone so they learn to stay quiet overnight. This is absolutely not the best way to help that new family member feel safe and comfortable in their new home.

From :

"A puppy is like a human child. They cry when there is something they need, including comfort and connection. If they do not get a response when they are crying then yes, they will stop, but not because they have settled. They have learned that nobody is coming and so they give up trying. This will have a serious and damaging effect on the bond between them and their family, and at probably the most vulnerable time in their lives emotionally. One of the most important things we can focus on in these early days and weeks of our shared lives is helping them to feel safe and secure and responding to their needs is absolutely the best way to go about this."

In those early days have them sleeping close to you, and respond when they are distressed. It does not mean that they will always cry at night. It will, however, help them to realise that they are not alone and that they can sleep safe and sound knowing you are there if they need you during the night.
