💙 A fond farewell (but not too far!) 💙

Our much loved vet, Eurico, will be heading off to our Brighton branch as their new Lead Vet from Monday.

Eurico has been such an important part of our Worthing family – always bringing kindness, expertise, and a smile to both pets and people. While we’ll truly miss having him here day to day, we’re incredibly proud of this next chapter and know he’ll continue to do amazing things in Brighton 🐾✨

🚫 Blue-Green Algae – A Hidden Danger for Dogs 🚫🐶

With summer in full swing, you might be heading to local lakes, ponds, or rivers with your dog. But beware – blue-green algae can be deadly to pets, even in small amounts.

💧 What is it?
It’s not actually algae, but a type of bacteria (cyanobacteria) that can produce dangerous toxins. It often forms a green or blue-green scum on the surface of still or slow-moving water.

⚠ Why it’s dangerous:
Dogs can get seriously ill – or worse – from drinking, swimming in, or even licking their fur after contact.

Symptoms can start within minutes:
🚨 Vomiting or diarrhoea
🚨 Drooling
🚨 Confusion or weakness
🚨 Seizures or collapse

How to keep your dog safe:
🚫 Avoid letting them drink from or swim in water with scum, foam, or a pea-soup-like appearance.
🚿 Rinse them immediately if they do go in questionable water.
💧Stick to clean, flowing water sources.

⚠️ If you think your pet has been exposed, call us immediately – blue-green algae poisoning can be fatal, and there’s no antidote.

If you’ve been following our page for a while, chances are you’ve seen our updates, pet pics, and educational posts pop up in your feed. But have you ever wondered who's behind the posts?

Today, I thought I’d step out from behind the screen and properly introduce myself!

✨️ Meet Zenia! ✨️

I’m the Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) here at Medivet Worthing, and I joined the amazing team in late 2024.

You might not always see me front and centre, but I’m working hard behind the scenes to keep things clean, calm, and running smoothly for you and your pets. Whether I’m helping out on reception, tackling a mountain of laundry, assisting the nurses and vets, or keeping the clinic sparkling — I’m your behind the scenes support 🐾

I’ve also been the main one behind our Facebook posts since Easter — sharing updates, pet pics, and all the clinic happenings! 🐶📸

I’m at the beginning of my animal care career, having previously worked in education and retail, and an aspiring Veterinary Nurse ✨️🩺

I’m a huge cat lover (I have a senior kitty of my own!), but I also have a soft spot for big, floofy dogs — especially Golden Retrievers and Bernese Mountain Dogs 😻🐶

In my own time, I enjoy nature walks, crafting (mostly diamond art), reading, and binge-watching true crime documentaries (yes, I’m that person!) 🖥📖🏞

☀️🐾 Amber Heatwave Alert – Keep Your Pets Safe & Hydrated! 🐾☀️

We’re currently under an Amber Alert for extreme heat here in Worthing & Goring – and while we humans can grab an ice-cold drink or pop on a fan, our pets rely on us to keep them cool and comfortable.

💧 Hydration is key – make sure fresh, cool water is available at all times.

🌳 Shade & ventilation – avoid walks in the heat of the day.

🍉 Cooling treats – ice cubes, pet-safe frozen snacks, or chilled toys can help keep them comfortable.

🚫 Never leave them in cars – even for a minute.

🐾 Know the signs – excessive panting, lethargy, drooling, or wobbliness can be early signs of heatstroke.

🚨 If you notice any symptoms of heat stress, contact us immediately – heatstroke can be life-threatening 🚨
