It’s and the perfect time to celebrate the incredible journey assistance dogs take to become life-changing canine partners. Here’s how it happens, step by step 🐾

🐶 Puppy Training
Chosen for their gentle, curious and friendly nature, our puppies start their journey with amazing Puppy Training Volunteers. Here, they learn the basics: obedience, socialisation, and the core skills of touching, tugging and retrieving. Every step is supported by our experienced Trainers.

🦮 Assistance Dog Training
At around 14–16 months, the dogs move on to advanced training, learning skills like opening doors, picking up dropped items, and pressing buttons. It’s at this stage that they begin to carefully match each dog with a disabled person on a waiting list, tailoring their training to meet that person’s specific needs.

🤝 Partner Training
Once matched, the Partner comes to the National Training Centre for an intensive two-week course. They learn to bond with their new assistance dog and gain the skills they need to build a confident, lasting partnership.

💜 Ongoing Support & Retirement
Canine Partners support doesn’t stop there. They’re with each partnership for life, and when the time comes, they help every dog transition to a happy, well-earned retirement.
