🐶☀️ Dogs and Heat Stroke – A Vital Reminder!

🚨 BVA Advice: If in doubt – don't go out!
When it comes to walking your dog in hot weather, safety should always come first. Learn the early signs of heat-related illness and know how to act in an emergency.

🌡️ General Temperature Guidelines:
⬇️ Below 20°C – Safe for most dogs. Still, monitor active pups for signs of overheating.

🌤️ 20–23°C – Take short walks in the shade, and bring water. 🐾💧

☀️ 24–26°C – Risky: Only walk if necessary, in shaded areas, and for brief periods.

🔥 27°C+ – Too dangerous for walking. Keep dogs cool and indoors.

⚠️ Other Crucial Considerations:
🔥 Pavement Check (The 5-Second Rule):
Place your hand on the tarmac for 5 seconds.
👉 If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

🐕 Know Your Dog:

At higher risk:

Older dogs 🐶

Overweight dogs ⚖️

Flat-faced breeds (like pugs or bulldogs) 🐾

Dogs with underlying health issues ❤️‍🩹

🌅 Best Walking Times:
Stick to early mornings or late evenings when it’s cooler.

🚑 Signs of Heatstroke to Watch For:
Excessive panting 😤

Drooling 💦

Vomiting 🤮

Lethargy or collapse 😴

👉 If you notice any of these signs, seek veterinary help immediately.

🚨‼️EMERGENCY!!! ‼️🚨 LEO the Staffy is incredibly distressed in kennels and URGENTLY needs a foster home!!! 🚨

Leo had to come into our care today and he is simply NOT coping in a kennel 😩💔 he is barking and crying constantly and literally hasn’t stopped to come up for air 😥💔 it’s so hot and we are very worried for him in this state - he DESPERATELY needs to be in a home ‼️🚨‼️

Leo is a 7 nearly 8 yr old ‘proper’ Staffy (a chunky short legged brindle boy) ❤️ as you can see, he’s missing an eye, but we think this makes him even more gorgeous ❤️ just look at that lovely Brindle slightly frosty face! ❤️

He has come from a family home and has lived with children. He is not reactive to dogs out and about, but in the home he doesn’t like to share food/water with dogs, which would make it difficult for him to share a home with another ❤️

As we all know, Staffys really don’t like kennels, but it’s clear that poor Leo REALLY does NOT cope in a kennel 💔🚨 we HAVE to get him into a home ASAP!!! ‼️🚨
