Summer hazards for cats🐱
Heatstroke🌡️ - Although cats are less likely to develop heatstroke compared to dogs, they still carry the risk of overheating. Especially if they are fluffy or flat-faced. Keeping them away from places such as greenhouses and conservatories.
Sunburn 🌞- Cats have a risk of developing sunburn, especially on their noses, ear tips and eyelids. It is also important to keep your cat out of the sun if they are white, ginger, hairless or if they have a thinner coat.
Parasites🧫 - With the sun, along come the parasites such as fleas and ticks. After a day of exploring, it is always worth giving your cat a once over to check for any unwanted visitors.
Insect bites and stings 🦟- As cats are predators and often make a game of catching flying insects. If they decide to have a play with a bee or a wasp, they tend to fight back often resulting in a sting. If you notice your pet has swollen paw, face/chin or mouth, please contact your Vet practice. However, if they are suffering with swelling of the throat or are having difficulty breathing, make sure to contact your Vets immediately.
Snake bites🐍 - Cats usually are cautious around snakes so are less likely to be bitten by one. However if they have been bitten, the outcome can be serious.
