Are you having a problem with fertility on your dairy farm?

๐Ÿ„ Fertility problems can drag down milk yields, profits โ€“ and morale.

Statfold farm discovered Q fever was part of the problem. Now they are able to get on top of herd fertility. ๐Ÿ’ชโœจ

๐Ÿ‘‰ Sometimes the hidden issues make the biggest difference. Watch the video below to find out more!
https://youtu.be/7JaEou-AAIw

The main impacts of Q Fever on dairy cattle, as confirmed in published studies, are:

๐Ÿฉธ Retained placenta: a 1.5x increase in the risk of retained placenta1.

๐Ÿ„ Endometritis: an increase in the rate of endometritis and metritis2.

โฌ‡๏ธ Infertility: early pregnancy loss and a decrease in conception rates3.

โŒ Pregnancy losses: in a study including 120 dairy herds, seropositive cows were 2.5 x more at risk for abortion and 1.5x more at risk for retained placenta4.

Milk matters. Rehydion can be given with milk without disrupting clotting or digestion, helping calves keep essential nutrients during scour. ๐Ÿ„โœจ

๐Ÿฅ› Good colostrum intake is vital for prevention, and milk shouldnโ€™t be stopped unless advised by a vet.

๐Ÿฎ Calves need 10% of bodyweight within the first few hours of birth, followed by another 2 litres within 12 hours.

Why should you vaccinate against Q Fever?

Vaccinating the herd against Q fever and following good biosecurity helps to reduce pathogen shedding to reduce further transmission to cattle and humans. In naรฏve animals, it can protect them from disease and reduce the clinical signs. Helping to protect the herd productivity and reduce the zoonotic risk.

๐Ÿ’‰ In 2023 Mary vaccinated her dairy herd against Q fever โ€“ within a short time she started to see differences in the herd.

โ€œMinimal abortions, hardly any pregnancy loss, healthier cows. Sometimes the simplest steps make the biggest difference.โ€ ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ’š

What is Q Fever? ๐Ÿ„

Q Fever is a contagious zoonotic disease, that also has a negative impact on the health and reproductive performance of ruminant herds, such as; sheep, cows and goats.

๐Ÿ™Œ Keeping disease out and optimum animal health is a top priority for farms, helping herds to thrive and reduce the rates of reproductive disorders.

Watch farmer Maryโ€™s story below to find out more about her herd and experience of Q fever! โœจ
