WE’RE BACK!

Anyone who worked with me last year or knows us will know that in January we welcomed our youngest son into the world and I stepped away from training to be present at home.

I am now so pleased to be getting back to work and available to take on new dogs!

I know I have had some messages since being away but Facebook/Instagram have decided that I can’t access them so if anyone has enquired please do send through the message again and we can get back to you.

I will be back to posting content and updates daily and I honestly cannot wait to get started again. It would be great to hear any updates on how last years clients are getting on too- remember training is ongoing forever, it doesn’t start and end at sessions with me!!

As noted in one of my later posts before my break, any left over sessions from last year will no longer be valid- if you still require support, please send me a message and we can come up with an action plan.

AVAILABILITY UPDATE🐾

Honestly can’t thank everyone enough for the bookings so far since opening CDK9 and for keeping me so busy over summer and into the end of the year.

I am now closed for all new course bookings and will only be accepting dogs on a pay as you go/ one off/ single session basis until further notice. This is to ensure I have sufficient time in my diary to get everyone booked in regularly and to also account for the Christmas period.

If there is anyone wanting to have any one of sessions to work through specific concerns then please drop me a message. I aim to get back to everyone waiting tonight as I know there’s a few if you, thanks for being patient! 🙏🏽

IMPORTANT‼️

As many of you know, I am expecting a baby in the very early new year. With that in mind, I am trying to ensure anyone currently midway through a program is completed ahead of Christmas to free up some diary space and ensure we complete the training in an effective timeframe.

I am aware that over summer some people had a couple of weeks off training to allow for holidays etc but please can anyone with outstanding sessions send me a message so we can get you booked in. If you are happy with the progress made in the taken sessions and don’t wish to redeem the remaining sessions just let me know so I know not to get in touch.

I would love to reach out to you all individually but there’s a few of you and a lot of new people joining the program so it would be quicker for you to touch base rather than me going through my diary manually where possible.

Please note, this does not effect those who are new to program or due to start in the next couple of weeks.

As always, thanks for the continued support/trust🙏🏽

DOBBY🐶

Meet Dobby, one of our latest XL recruits!

At just 3 years old he has found himself in his approximate 5th home but, this time, he’s found an owner willing to put the work in and help him make better choices when out on his walks🐾

The main goal agreed during his first session this week was to control his reaction when passing other dogs on walks and to make sure he walks with manners (in other words ensuring his owner never ends up on her ass again after being pulled over!)

Stay tuned next week to see an update on his progress🫡

In light of the news surrounding the ban of XL Bullys before the end of the year, I have decided to offer a discount to owners of the breed wanting to book some single sessions to work through any existing behavioural issues before they have to begin the potential exemption process of owning the breed.

The training can be flexible to cover existing issues but anyone booking more than one session will also work through Muzzle training as a standard unless you don’t wish to. Should the ban go ahead it is highly likely any XL’s will be required to wear a muzzle at all times in public places, on every walk, regardless of temperament. The least stressful way of achieving this for the dog is to start slowly now.

I am NOT an expert on the law, however, another sensible suggestion based on research is that any unneutered/ unspayed XL’s get booked in ASAP with your regular vet to have the procedure done. This will limit the risk of your dog being seized if and when the ban comes into place, it will also stop the dog being sent to a vet of the authorities choice to have the procedure if they are to be seized. To be successful with the exception the dog HAS to be neutered.

Please feel free to share with any friends and family who are currently worried owners of the breed👍🏾

DIESEL 🐶

Dogs like Diesel are the reason I love this job!

Rescued a couple of years ago from Sunnyside Diesel came to CDK9 with a severe reactivity to dogs which has led to a couple of altercations over the years. Even a couple of hundred meters distance would cause hyper fixation and an inability to be distracted and, unfortunately, due to other people’s irresponsibility this has led to some aggressive outbursts.

By the end of his one off session we had a much calmer, much more relaxed dog and owner. Tomorrow I will provide a follow up session to further support him in making better choices when he sees another dog and provide his owner with further tools and confidence to help him strive 🙌🏾

Side note:
Unless your dog has 100% recall, unless you know that no matter what, your dog is going to come back when asked to PLEASE do not have them off lead in an area where there are dogs on lead. You can have the friendliest dog in the world, the most well socialised dog in the world and if they uninvitedly approach an on-lead reactive dog which just so happens to get a hold of them YOU are at fault. It shouldn’t take an owner screaming across a field for you to retrieve your dog- it should never ever reach that stage. If you see another dog it’s good practise to pop yours into a heel position and on lead and if that other dog is on lead its self then it shouldn’t even be a question in your mind.

On lead/ muzzled dogs don’t always mean aggression but it could mean:
-nervous
-reactive
-sick
-in training
-poor recall
-in season

Of course, we want our dogs to meet and socialise when out on walks but just do so responsibly, approach on lead at a distance first and ask the owner if they are okay to come closer. Read body language, a wagging tail definitely does not always mean a happy dog. 🐾🐾

Evening!

Availability from 4:30ish onwards this week for those on the program.

Pop me a message with preferred days and times and I’ll get everyone in🐾🐾🐾

Don’t forget to drop me a message with your preferred day/times for the upcoming week- as soon as I have my diary open I check my messages to get people in on the days that’s best for them wherever possible 🙏🏾

From 14th August there will be some changes to my working hours meaning I will likely be choosing 2 evenings a week to run sessions on, potentially a daytime weekend session if needed for those already on the program. It would be good to know what evenings work particularly well for you- if you have a preference pop it in the comments and I can start to plan!

Afternoon!

Hate hate hate to do this but I have had multiple no shows this week/ last week after people have arranged sessions and, as a one-man-band small business, this impacts me massively.

Going forward, unless I am notified in reasonable time before hand, or it is a genuine emergency, no-shows will be deducted from your overall remaining sessions on the program.

Not something I wanted to do but when I am travelling to locations I have to protect my income.

Hope you can all understand!

On a lighter note, I do have some availability now a number of dogs have graduated the program so if anyone was thinking about getting started, please pop me a message and I can get you sorted🐾🐾
