As part of our ongoing diversity, equality and inclusivity work, we wish to ensure all of our members are aware of what the different options are to indicate a disability whether hidden or visible.
What do the armbands mean?
🌻Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Armband - Riders who have a hidden disability, can choose to wear the Sunflower armband at BRC activities, available from the https://hdsunflower.com/ to increase awareness of the challenges faced on a daily basis.🌻
🤍White Armband – Riders who are visually impaired may opt to wear a white armband during BRC activities.
💙Royal Blue Armband – Riders who are hearing impaired can choose to wear a blue armband to indicate they may not be able to hear other riders or the steward whilst taking part in BRC activities.
💛Yellow ribbon in a tail and/or yellow armbands – Indicates a para rider
What can we do to help?
• Ask them if they would like assistance
• Do not question or judge their disability
• Be kind and respectful
• Listen and be patient, allow time for a response and show understanding
• Give the rider plenty of space in a warm-up area as due to their disability or condition may mean that they have to stop abruptly, they may not be able to see or hear where you are or they may have different reaction speeds to what is happening in front of them.
To apply for a reasonable adjustment please fill in the form & let us know what will help you take part in BRC activities: https://www.bhs.org.uk/british-riding-clubs/competitions/brc-downloads/
