The Veterinary Medicines Directorate have issued concerns over fake flea and worming prevention bought online.
These LACK the essential ingredients, while ADDING chemicals causing vomiting, muscle tremors, breathing difficulties, seizures, and potentially death.
Owners are urged to look out for poor packaging, spelling mistakes, unusual smells and suspiciously low prices.
Also remember that many products you get from your vet practice are “prescription only medications”. This means a vet must prescribe them and they must be supplied either from a veterinary practice or a registered online pharmacy.
Some flea and worming products are licensed to be sold in shops, but it’s important to do your research and ensure you are selecting the appropriate product if you are doing so without veterinary guidance.
We have personally seen a lot of products available on popular, low cost, fast-fashion websites / apps. Now of course without testing each of them WE can’t definitively say they are fake or harmful, but we can say for sure that they are not being prescribed to your pet by your veterinarian or SQP that knows your animal or has them under their care.
