Thank you for all the messages about the girls. Lots of you DMed me about Peanut asking what happened.
Peanut was steadily gaining weight despite constantly cutting her food back. Her hair started falling out. Her skin was extremely dry. She was having trouble walking and was constantly falling over even just walking a few steps. She had absolutely no energy and would refuse to go on a walk. Her eyes were watering constantly and instead of investigating the vets chose to operate on her tear ducks which obviously didnβt help. They caused further problems and ended up having to operate again to fix what they did.
This still didnβt help and she started snoring very heavily as well. The vets then decided to treat her for IVDD and arthritis and she was having medication and injections. This went on for a few months and she only deteriorated more. I eventually insisted on being referred.
Peanut saw a neurological specialist as she was unable to walk straight at this point and was constantly falling over. Before testing and doing an MRI he said he thought he knew what was wrong and was going to do blood tests.
Tests came back and showed Peanuts Thyroid levels were almost at 0. Her body was shutting down. The reason her eyes were leaking, she was snoring and she couldnβt walk was because her body had no energy to function.
She is now on thyroid medication and will be for the rest of her life. It took three months before we started to see any improvement but 6 months later things were almost back to normal.
A huge thank you to Dedicated to Dachshunds for the loan of a pram for Peanut π©·
