🐾 June is National Microchipping Month 🐾

Did you know that a microchip could be the reason your pet finds their way back home? ❤️

Every year, thousands of pets go missing, and collars or tags can easily fall off or become unreadable. A microchip provides your pet with a permanent form of identification that can be quickly scanned by vets, rescue centres, and animal wardens to help reunite you with your beloved companion 🐶🐱

✨ Why microchipping is so important:
🔹 It greatly increases the chances of lost pets being returned home
🔹 It is quick, safe, and lasts for life
🔹 Collars can come off — microchips stay with your pet
🔹 It helps prove ownership
🔹 Keeping your contact details updated means you can be contacted quickly if your pet is found
🔹 It is also a legal requirement for dogs, and cats in England must also now be microchipped by 20 weeks of age

Remember — a microchip only works if your details are kept up to date! If you’ve changed address or phone number recently, now is the perfect time to check your information 📞🏡

Microchipping is a simple step that can make a huge difference 💙

If you would like to book your pet in for microchipping or check their chip details, please contact the surgery 🐾

💙 As Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month comes to an end, we want to take a moment to say a huge THANK YOU to our incredible veterinary nurses. 🐾

Our nurses are at the heart of everything we do here at Cogges Veterinary Surgery. From comforting worried owners and caring for sick pets, to monitoring anaesthetics, assisting in surgery, running clinics, giving treatments, and providing endless love and compassion every single day — their role is truly invaluable.

Veterinary nursing is so much more than people often realise. It takes skill, dedication, patience, kindness, and an enormous amount of hard work, often behind the scenes. Our nurses are there during the happy moments, the difficult moments, and everything in between, always putting the wellbeing of your pets first.

We are incredibly lucky to have such a caring, talented, and hardworking nursing team, and we honestly couldn’t do what we do without them. Thank you for everything you do for our patients, clients, and practice every single day. 💙

Please join us in showing some appreciation for all veterinary nurses everywhere! 🐶🐱🐰

🌾 Grass Seed Season is Starting! 🐶🐱

As the weather warms up and grasses begin to grow, we are starting to see more grass seeds appearing on walks and in fields 🌿

Although they may look harmless, grass seeds can easily become trapped in your pet’s:
👂 Ears
🐾 Paws
👁 Eyes
👃 Nose
🩹 Skin and fur

These sharp seeds can burrow into the skin and cause pain, irritation, infections and sometimes require sedation or surgery to remove.

⚠️ Signs to look out for:
• Excessive paw licking
• Limping
• Head shaking
• Sneezing
• Squinting eyes
• Swelling or redness

After walks, especially through long grass, it’s a great idea to check your pet’s paws, ears and coat carefully 🐕🐈

If you notice any of the signs above or are worried your pet may have picked up a grass seed, please contact the practice for advice ☎️

Think hay fever is just a human problem? Think again… your dog could be suffering too.

Keep an eye out for these common signs:

🐾 Excessive scratching or licking
👀 Red, watery eyes
🤧 Sneezing or a runny nose
🌿 Chewing paws or rubbing their face

If your dog seems more irritated than usual, it might be more than just a seasonal itch. Be sure to speak to your vet if you are worried about your dog.

It’s Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month 💙🐾

This month we want to take a moment to recognise and celebrate our amazing Veterinary Nurses for everything they do each and every day.

Veterinary Nurses are at the heart of patient care providing compassion, comfort, skill, and support to both pets and their owners during some of the happiest and hardest moments. From monitoring anaesthetics and caring for inpatients, to comforting nervous pets, assisting in surgery, running clinics, and supporting the whole practice team, their role is truly invaluable.

Their dedication, patience, kindness, and hard work often goes unseen behind the scenes, but our patients and team would be lost without them.

Thank you to all Veterinary Nurses for the care and compassion you give every single day 🩺🐶🐱✨
