🐾Why | Use a Snuffle Mat During Nail Trims🐾🤍

For many dogs, nail trims can feel overwhelming. New sensations, handling of their paws, and anticipation of what's coming can all create stress and anxiety.
That's why I often use a snuffle mat during appointments.
By encouraging dogs to sniff, forage, and search for treats, the snuffle mat gives them a positive job to focus on. Sniffing is a natural calming behavior that engages their brain, helps reduce stress, and redirects their attention away from the nail trim itself.
Rather than simply "getting through" the experience, my goal is to help dogs feel safe, supported, and successful. Using enrichment alongside gentle handling, positive reinforcement, and plenty of reassurance helps build trust and creates a more positive association with future nail trims.
Every dog deserves to be heard, respected, and given the opportunity to cope in a way that works for them. Sometimes something as simple as a snuffle mat can make a huge ditterence.

Bonnie🤍🐾 poor Bonnie had to have a little reset due to being quite poorly and missing her appointment, Bonnie was quite anxious today so took it at her pace and did what she would allow me to do, is it perfect nope is Bonnie more comfortable yes and that’s all that matters 🤍 her wellbeing is my top priority!
