Merry Christmas to you and the doggies. A present this week with the government announcement of the animal welfare strategy. Hopefully it will improve the lives of many animals including our much loved dogs with better control of puppy farms and the banning of shock collars. We have a choice - train our dogs using clear, consistent, kind and humane methods or allow the use of methods which frighten and hurt, as ways of forcing dogs to do what we want. It’s a no-brainer for me - we are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers, not abusers.
Ben has been enjoying the frosty mornings recently! Rubbing his face in the cold grass - something he never could while he was used for breeding before he came to us. Hope to see you on the Boxing Day or New Year’s Day walks.!

We are walking on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day as we traditionally do. As we haven’t been running classes since the beginning of the year, we haven’t seen many of our lovely clients or their dogs, so if you are looking for a catch-up with us after the Christmas festivities do come along.
Boxing Day 10.3am meet in the churchyard next to The Chequers in Goldhanger.
New Year’s Day 10.30am meet at the lock gates in Heybridge Basin.

Ben’s first walk at Heybridge Basin. He did really well despite being worried about a new place. We stopped to get tea at the Bargemaster’s Cabin and of course a veggie sausage sandwich - great to see Sean and Emma doing more veggie food.

Dog Star Training is not running any weekly classes after the 14th December as Cherryl retires. We have been running classes for 25 years and will miss seeing clients and dogs each week. The number of dogs and clients we have helped over the years is huge and we have loved meeting people their pets, and guiding guardians to train their much loved dogs in a kind, fair way using humane, effective methods.
We will continue with our walks and workshops and recommend that clients who would like to continue weekly training look for an ABTC registered trainer www.abtc.org.uk
We hope to see you on our Boxing Day and New Year’s Day walks.

The Animal Behaviour and Training Council sets and maintains standards of knowledge and practical skills needed to be an animal trainer, training instructor or animal behaviour therapist and maintains the national Register of appropriately assessed practitioners.
