May is Veterinary Nurse Awareness month.
Do you know what our nurses do?
To become registered, it takes lots of course work, practical and written exams, as well as many hours of on the job training.
After registering, Vet Nurses can :

🔵 Monitor anaesthetised animals
🔵 Prepare animals for surgery
🔵 Take radiographs
🔵 Take and process blood samples
🔵 Administer medication
🔵 Run nurse clinics
🔵 Carry out diagnostic tests
🔵 Looking after inpatients

🔵 Assisting with dental procedures
🔵 Cleaning
🔵 Stock control
🔵 Admitting and discharging patients

Wishing a Happy Easter to all our customers and their pets! We will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday (emergency service is available ) and there is a normal clinic at both surgeries on Saturday.

Many of you will hear on the news today about the CMA report on the veterinary industry. The recommendations are aimed to make things much clearer for pet owners about costs and different options for treatment of pets.

For us at J&S, apart from some extra administrative hoops to jump through, things will generally be much the same. We have always discussed costs freely, provide estimates and written prescriptions and most importantly aim to work together with you for your pets’ well-being.

The CMA has also mandated that vet practices will need to be clear about their ownership- We at J&S have always been proudly independent and are now majority employee-owned.

The CMA has set out its final reforms – which will start coming into force later this year – to help pet owners better navigate the vet services market.

Here at J & S we are very proud to be an Independant Veterinary Practice. We are even prouder that is our 1st Anniversary of becoming an Employee Ownership Trust. We truly belong, through the Trust, to all our lovely staff and can never be sold to a large corporate organisation. Jo and Cathy took this step to safeguard the practice for the future though they both hope to continue to work at the practice for many years to come.
Thank you to all our amazing patients and their families and of course to our great team. All of whom deserve a 🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾

This is Jess, she is a final year Vet Student, studying Veterinary Medicine at Queen's Veterinary School Hospital in Cambridge.
Pictured here with Reilly, one of our lovely inpatients, Jess has spent a total of 7 weeks over the last 3 years shadowing our vets, learning more about life on the job and gaining valuable clinical experience.
Here at Johnson & Scott, we are keen to help encourage enthusiastic students like Jess to reach their potential.
We wish her all the best for her final exams this spring.
