We manufacture, source and supply the best artificial grass for dogs, odour reducing infills and professional turf deodorisers and disinfectant. It's sold as dog friendly and perfect for pet owners. At Top Dog Turf, we don't agree. We believe synthetic turf is often wrongly sold and incorrectly installed for people who have dogs. Think about it....

Artificial grass is basically a plastic carpet,

fitted on top of a hardcore and sand base. Similar to a carpet in your home, fitted on the floor. Now, think about your dog 'doing their business' on your carpet, several times a day, for years and years....mmmmm, nice :(

You can pick up the poos, but not all poos are created equal, and some refuse to be pick up completely. Where do the bits go? Where does the wee go? The rain or hose just washes the nastiness down into the base of the grass, or it finds its way through the drainage holes, and sits under the latex base, in the sand. There's no soil, or natural bacteria to break down the bits, or bio degrade the waste. Uric acid crystals aren't dissolved by water, so everything just stays where it is... stinking. At Top Dog Turf, we're weirdly obsessed with dog poo and wee. We don't like the idea of children playing on dirty, unhygienic grass, or you not being able to enjoy your garden because of the pissy pongs. Using odour reducing minerals and recycled materials within our installations, and specific types of artificial turf, we can reduce the odour issues by up to 80%

OH NO! New Product Disaster!

This week we are launching P*e Shingle.
A brilliant odour reducing gravel for pets that like to p*e on stones.

However whilst taking photos for the website, the Top Dog security decided they’d like to eat them.

Zeolite minerals are used in fancy detox products for humans, and all our Top Dog zeolite is food grade.

Luna The Enforcer is on a lot of pain relief for hip dysplasia, so she obviously feels she needs some to support her system.

She loves it so much she’s now guarding it, so the photo shoot is briefly postponed 😂🤷‍♀️

You will need 3 x 25kg sacks per m2 to create an effective P*e Shingle dog loo area @ £50 per 25kg bag.

Although a bit of an investment it lasts forever and looks really lovely.

How do you choose the best artificial grass for your dog?

There are hundreds of artificial grasses on market. Choosing the right one for you and your dog is difficult … and confusing. It’s easy to make an expensive mistake. At Top Dog Turf, we recommend that you always add an odour reducing infill with any artificial grass that you buy. This will prevent dog urine going through the drainage holes in the grass and getting trapped underneath the lawn and smelling.

To allow for an odour reducing infill, we suggest that you buy a good quality grass with a minimum pile / blade height of 32 millimeters. Look for a grass that is dense and compact, but longer than 32 millimeters. Avoid grasses that look like uncut meadow grass with long tufts as you’ll you will need to pick up the worst dog poos on some occasions! That Boxing Day dog ‘turkey dinner’ p**p is quite often the worst p**p of the year. Look at the sample and ask yourself, ‘could I pick up a Boxing Day p**p from this grass?” 🤪

We suggest that the best artificial grass for dogs has blades of an even and uniform height and a dense thatch. Thatch is the brown curly bits within the grass that holds the blades upright. When artificial grass is made, it’s the little brown bits, the thatch that are expensive.

So, we would recommend that you get the best quality artificial grass that you can afford, which will usually mean that it has a denser, better quality thatch.

Tired of smelly artificial grass? It’s not your dog’s fault — it’s the installation.

There are 3 things your turf installer should be doing to help prevent wee smells from building up:

1️⃣ A fast-draining sub-base – so wee and cleaning fluids don’t hang around
2️⃣ Latex-free turf with a polyurethane backing – because rubber + wee = stink
3️⃣ Odour-reducing infills – to combat ammonia, bacteria and that nasty niff

If your installer doesn’t know about these… it’s time to talk to the turf wee experts. Wee happens. We fix it. 💚
