Some of you may know me, some may not but I’m Jennifer Shephard, proprietor of A Dog’s Life Co. My journey began in Eton in 2018 and moved to my current location in Windsor Royal Shopping in December 2020.
My lease is up for renewal this year and the landlord (who owns Windsor Royal Shopping and Windsor Yards) doesn’t want to renew it because they want to move a franchise in.
I’ve operated in Windsor and Eton since 2018, I’m incredibly grateful to all my loyal customers that have helped me through some enormously difficult trading conditions. It’s been a challenging environment to survive in as an independent business but being replaced by a Greggs or Poundland wasn’t what I imagined to be my demise.
I found it shocking as everything had been going otherwise well in the past five years. I had expressed my interest in renewing my lease and had expected an increase in rent as everything has gone up in the past several years.
It seems like they are not interested in keeping independent businesses in their properties and would rather replace them with soulless and bland high street stores.
I’m going to continue to fight to stay but it’s about more than just me. I know some of you may think my business is ridiculous, stupid, unnecessary, etc but hopefully lots of you agree that having diverse independent businesses is preferable to a sea of cookie cutter franchises and empty units and contributes positively to Windsor.
Whether it’s in support of me or in support of a better high street, please sign this petition.
