We had a real variety of breeds at this week's Puppy Evening. Wilbur the Schnoodle, Aiobheann (pronounced Even) the Bearded Collie, Wilma the Cavapoo and Buddy the Cocker Spaniel. A lovely group of sociable and friendly puppies. They took full advantage of exploring the waiting room and trying out the various activities. We also talked about common puppy issues, such as toilet training and puppy biting and discussed what is working for the individual puppies.

🐦 BIRD FLU INFORMATION 🐦

We have had confirmation that Bird Flu was the cause of death in a group of local wild birds.

With more outbreaks of this devastating disease, we want to share the most up to date advice for the public if they come across a sick or injured bird.

1.Don't touch or pick up any dead or visibly sick birds

2. If you see a sick or dead wild bird, please report it to Defra using their online reporting system or by calling the Defra helpline (03459 33 55 77).

3. Bird flu can rarely infect mammals, including cats, dogs, and other pets. Try to keep your pets away from wild birds to protect them from bird flu.

4. If you see a bird that is clearly injured or wounded, this may be different, so call us and we can advise on what to do. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO TOUCH THE BIRD BEFORE GETTING ADVICE.

🎆 Fireworks are beautiful to watch and enjoy during bonfire season, but remember they can be stressful for pets. Trembling, hiding, trying to escape, excessive vocalisation, panting, or drooling are all common signs of anxiety.

Top tips to help keep your pets calm and safe during the fireworks:

🐾Create a Safe Space: Set up a cosy, quiet room with their favourite toys and blankets.
🎶 Noise Distraction: Play calming music or turn on the TV to help drown out the loud bangs outside.
🐕 Walk Earlier: Take your dog for a walk before dark, before the fireworks start.
🏠 Keep Them Indoors: Make sure windows, doors, and pet flaps are closed so your pet can't escape if they get spooked.
🐰 Don’t Forget the Small Pets: Move rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small pets indoors or cover their enclosures to muffle the noise.

🔥 | Remember Remember…

Check bonfires before lighting them in case wildlife such as hedgehogs have taken shelter amongst the wood.

If you have one in your garden, PLEASE make sure it is completely out, especially before letting pets anywhere near the area.

Unsuspecting animals (wild or pet) can run over any embers, which may still be hot, and get burnt feet!
