🌱 Laminitis Risk is HIGH – Please Take Extra Care 🌱

The recent spell of warm weather, followed by heavy rain, has created ideal conditions for a surge in grass growth. This fresh, lush grass can be very high in sugars, increasing the risk of laminitis in susceptible horses and ponies.

Some simple steps you can take:
🐴 Limit grazing, especially during periods of rapid grass growth.
🌾 Use a grazing muzzle or strip graze if needed.
⚖️ Keep overweight horses and ponies on a weight management plan.
🥕 Feed plenty of low-sugar forage and avoid unnecessary sugary treats.
👣 Check digital pulses daily and watch for early signs such as foot soreness, reluctance to turn, shifting weight or increased heat in the feet.
🏃 Keep horses exercising where appropriate and if they’re sound to do so.

Remember, laminitis can affect horses of all shapes and sizes—not just native ponies. Prevention is always easier than treatment.
