๐ PREPARE FOR FIREWORKS NOW - Speak to your vet ๐
Many firework phobic dogs need help to be able to relax and reduce their anxiety around bonfire night. Medication can be invaluable for firework fears and phobias but with vets busier than ever you will need to be getting in touch with them ASAP to get an appointment.
There are loads of available aids, both natural and pharmaceutical that can help...
๐พ NEUTRACEUTICALS - natural/ herbal remedies. Always worth a try as they have little or no side effects. I find they can work wonders for some dogs but have little effect on others so its a bit of trial and error. Your vet will be able to recommend something or drop me a message and I will point you in the right direction.
๐พ PHARMACEUTICALS - drugs that are either sedatives or anti-anxiety. Sedatives should be avoided, they prevent the dog from reacting but don't have any affect on their state of mind. Again anti-anxiety drugs can work well for some and not for others but there is are few different options so speak to your vet to see what would be most suitable. For these types of treatment a vet check is always legally required so phone your vet as soon as possible to allow plenty time for an appointment to be arranged.
๐พ PHEROMONES (DAP) - available as sprays, collars or plug in diffusers and can help dogs feel more calm and secure
All of these are not enough on their own, you will need behavioural management strategies in place as well (I will post some tips over the next few days so stay tuned) ๐พ
