Regular nail trims ✨

Keeping the nails trimmed regularly is super important. Untrimmed nails are much more susceptible to injuries
It can cause the dogs gait to change overtime and change their alignment putting more stress on certain joints and making it difficult to walk comfortably. It is especially important in older dogs whose joints are already stiff.

The more regular the nails are trimmed the shorter their nails will be able to go due to the nail quicks receding each time. The longer we leave them the longer the quicks grow with the nail meaning the less chance of getting a good cut on the nail.

The quicks are the blood vessels that run through the centre of your dogs nails (harder to see with darker nails) on white nails you will see a pink line running through the white nail.

Every dog who visits the dog shed will have a nail trim included in their groom (this also includes Tidy up grooms and ‘just baths’)
Some dogs I am able to use my dremel nail file on, others I can only use nail clippers. It all depends on how the dog is with their nail trims and how they react.. desensitisation is key 🔑

A lot of dogs don’t like to have their paws touched/panic at the clicky noise of the nail cutters.. it’s super important we don’t wind our dogs up with foot touching. Grab some treats or their favourite licky mat and practice short and gentle foot touches with your dog. No grabbing, no holding on for dear life.. a small gentle touch/massage of their feet/toes for a few seconds then a treat for a job well done. This repeated over time will build trust.

I am always here to help, if you are unsure wether your dog needs nail trims between their grooms you can send me a picture of their nails and I can advise you wether you need to bring them a little sooner just for their nails to be trimmed.

Video of my badger boy having his nails trimmed today (probably should have done it in the salon as now I’m hoovering nail clippings up off the floor 😂) proof that with regular nail trims from a young age and building trust will mean stress free nail trims for life ❤️
