Excuse me May, we need to have a word… ☀️🥵

What is this witchcraft we are experiencing?

Certain areas in the south reached 35°C this week, following an exceptionally dry April where we saw only around 30% of the rainfall we would normally expect.

The scorching days and warm nights, have meant seeds are germinating incredibly quickly, producing thousands upon thousands of thirsty little plants across the farm 🌱

It’s beautiful weather, and after such a long wet winter we are certainly enjoying the sunshine, but there’s no denying how unusual it feels, or the fact that we are now in real need of significant rainfall. Right now, it feels far more like mid-summer than late spring.

Anyone fancy joining us for a rain dance this evening? 🌧️

🐝🌼 Happy World Bee Day 🌼🐝

Tiny but mighty, bees do far more than make honey… they help grow so much of the food and flowers we all love 🌸🌾

Here on the farm, they’re some of our hardest workers — busy pollinating wildflowers, pumpkin plants, sunflowers and everything in between while we’re still on our first coffee of the day ☕😅

Without bees, our fields wouldn’t look quite so colourful, our pumpkins wouldn’t grow quite so plentifully, and the farm definitely wouldn’t feel the same.

So today’s a little reminder to appreciate the buzz behind the scenes 🐝💛

Over the years, we’ve loved creating magical family days out filled with sunshine, pumpkins, muddy boots, laughter, and memories made together outdoors.

Seeing so many families return year after year honestly means the world to us 🧡

The seeds have arrived 🌱🎃
One of the most exciting deliveries of the year… hundreds of thousands of pumpkin and squash seeds ready for planting season 🚜
What looks like silver packets now, in a few months will become the pumpkin fields you all know and love 🧡
And this year, we’ll have even more varieties for you to choose from…

The moment they’ve been waiting for… 🐄☀️

The sunshine has finally arrived and the cows are making the most of it ☀️🐄

After a long winter, there’s nothing better than first turnout.

I think it’s safe to say they’re happy about it… 😅

🌿🐑 It’s lambing time here on the farm! 🐑🌿

Whilst we love sharing snippets of farm life with you, lambing isn’t something we open to the public.

We choose to lamb a little later in the year so that we can lamb outdoors, and for us there are so many benefits to this…

🌿 It’s a far more natural setting for the ewes, helping them feel relaxed and improving mothering instincts, which means less chance of lambs being abandoned or mismothered.

☀️ It’s a much healthier and more hygienic environment, reducing the risk of disease and infection.

🐑 Lambs born outdoors are often up and moving quickly, finding milk sooner and generally being stronger and more robust from the start.

🚜 It also means we can minimise our use of straw and hay, with the majority of ewes and lambs staying out in the fields where they belong.

Any ewes or lambs needing a little extra help are brought into our “maternity ward” for some extra TLC and support 🍼

And of course… outdoor lambing means we can start working on our farmer tans for the year too 😎☀️

We’ll keep sharing little glimpses behind the scenes, so keep an eye out for more fluffy faces! 💚

Happy Easter from all of us at The Patch MK 🐣🌼

What does Easter weekend look like for us down on the farm?

🐑 The start of lambing time (hello sleepless nights!)

🍫 Easter egg hunts with the family (human and animal family!)

🌿 A quick raid of the hedgerows for “spring décor” to bring the outside in.

🔧 Fencing… repairing all the bits the winter (and animals) have destroyed before the cattle go out.

However you’re spending yours, we hope you have a fantastic weekend 🌼
