Unfortunately Jack has been taken out of the training school due to some issues... but we have taken on sponsorship for the magnificent looking Henry!
Further info on Jack's story if you want to know more:
Jack has struggled with cooperative care and recall since he moved on to training school earlier this year. Cooperative care covers daily health checks for all dogs, checking their eyes, ears and body, enabling us to pick up on any concerns quickly. It’s important that all our dogs are comfortable with these checks for their own wellbeing as well as that of their future owner.
In Jack’s recent Pupdate, we shared that shortly after he arrived at training school, he developed an ear infection and became uncomfortable with his head being touched. The decision was made for him to move back to puppy raising to give him time and a relaxed environment to work on this, alongside his unreliable recall.
Since then, his sensitivity continued to increase, and he became uncomfortable wearing his TTouch harness. His puppy raiser, puppy development advisor and guide dog trainer worked really hard, alongside the dog welfare team, to help Jack overcome these issues, unfortunately they saw no improvement, and it was clear that Jack was not happy.
With Jack’s health and wellbeing, along with the safety of any potential future owner in mind, the very difficult decision was made to take Jack out of the Guide Dogs training programme. These issues mean he’s not suitable for an alternative career as a buddy dog, as these challenges could put additional pressure on a family already affected by sight loss.
Jack is currently living with his dedicated puppy raiser while we finalise his placement into his forever home. We often receive kind offers from supporters to rehome our sponsored puppies, which we are grateful for. We have a standard rehoming process for all dogs and puppies at Guide Dogs for dogs in need of a new home, which is followed for sponsored pups too. Learn more about guide dog rehoming.
All the best for the future Jack, you'll be a great family dog!
