🐾 Let’s Talk About Lurchers 🐾
So, what is a lurcher?
They’re usually a mix of a sighthound (like a greyhound or whippet) and another breed often something like a collie or terrier. That mix gives them a combination of speed, brains, and a lot of love to give.
Most of the lurchers in our care have come to us as strays, which means we don’t have any background information on their previous lives. What we do have is the time we’ve spent getting to know them here, and that’s shown us just how affectionate, adaptable, and full of potential they really are.
Here’s why they make brilliant companions:
🛋️ Chilled at home – You might think they need loads of exercise, but most lurchers are happy with a good walk and then a long nap on the sofa (or in a sunny spot on the floor).
❤️ Soft and affectionate – They’re gentle souls who love company. Whether you’re out for a walk or having a lazy day in, they’ll be right by your side.
🐕 Often good with other dogs – While not every lurcher is dog-friendly, many do get on really well with others. If you’ve already got a dog and are thinking about rehoming a lurcher, we’d ask you to bring your dog along for a meet-and-greet. Just give us a call to book an appointment
OPTION 4
🐇 Not always small pet friendly – Because of their sighthound instincts, some lurchers have a high prey drive and may not be suitable to live with cats or small animals. It really depends on the individual dog, so we’ll always do our best to advise you honestly.
🎾 Full of character – Some are goofy and playful, others are calm and cuddly — but all of them have their own little quirks that make them a joy to be around.
