Anyone else do this? 🤣

One of my favourite things about having CCTV in the barn is checking in on the horses if I happen to wake up during the night.

Most people scroll social media… I scroll horse surveillance footage. 🐴👀

There’s something reassuring about seeing them stretched out, snoozing away and completely relaxed.

Every now and then I catch all three lying down at the same time. No one standing guard, no one on watch duty. That’s about as relaxed and content as a herd can be. ❤️

Safe, comfortable and getting the rest they need.

For me, those quiet moments tell you more than anything else about how a horse feels in its environment. Seeing them this settled makes all the hard work worthwhile. 🥰

So lovely to have HorseWorks based here on the farm alongside Healthy Hooves Equine ☀️🐴

The horses have settled in so well and there’s a really lovely little community vibe developing around the yard.

It’s been so nice getting to know their horses and supporting them over the Bank Holiday weekend while they enjoyed a very well-earned Sunday escape!

A typical day here on the livery… 🐴💚

Buckets washed, beds topped up, feed bins filled, forage gathered, and all the countless little jobs that keep everything running smoothly.

One of the greatest privileges of living on site is that we get to see the horses simply being horses. From gathering fresh cleavers and other safe forage treats for them to watching them choose their companions, graze, rest, play and explore, we’re lucky enough to witness their natural behaviour every day.

There’s something incredibly special about seeing friendships develop, quiet moments of companionship, and horses making their own choices in a relaxed environment. These are the moments that tell us so much about their wellbeing and remind us why we do what we do.

The work is never-ending, but watching happy horses enjoy life together makes every bucket, wheelbarrow and early morning worthwhile. ❤️

☀️ Keeping Cool & Enriched on a Summer’s Day ☀️

What a beautiful summer’s day today, so we’ve been making the most of it while ensuring the horses stay cool, hydrated and enriched.

🍎 Apple bobbing is always a favourite, encouraging drinking while providing a little extra fun and enrichment.

🌿 Fresh cow parsley has been tucked into hay nets and placed at various points around the track, encouraging natural foraging behaviour, movement and exploration.

🧂 Himalayan salt licks are available throughout the track system, helping to support hydration and allowing the horses to replace essential salts lost through sweating during the warmer weather.

🧴 Alfie’s pink muzzle has had a generous application of sun block to help protect against sunburn.

🌳 With plenty of shady spots around the track and cool barns to retreat to, everyone has the freedom to choose where they feel most comfortable throughout the day.

Small touches like these encourage natural behaviours, support wellbeing and help keep horses happy, healthy and comfortable whatever the weather. ❤️🐴

Track systems aren’t about banning grass – they’re about giving horses the freedom to move while managing grazing in a way that supports their health.

Many horses spend hours confined to stables when grass needs restricting. Track systems offer an alternative, encouraging horses to move, forage, browse and socialise throughout the day.

They also help manage access to rich pasture. Much of the grass in UK paddocks is far richer than the more varied forage horses evolved to eat, increasing the risk of weight gain, laminitis and metabolic issues in susceptible horses.

As grass growth takes off through spring and summer, track systems can support healthy weight management without sacrificing turnout, movement or companionship.

✅ More movement
✅ Controlled grazing
✅ Social interaction
✅ Natural foraging behaviours
✅ Freedom to express natural behaviours
✅ Happier, healthier horses

Giving horses the freedom to be horses. 🐴
