Rudi is looking very pleased with herself, and rightly so! Once upon a time, she was somewhat rambunctious, overly enthusiastic, and thoroughly dedicated to doing things that we'd rather she didn't. Nowadays she's winning certificates on a Friday morning, and then starts to get ready to sing in the choir at church on Sundays (ish!)

Our Thursday evening Teenage Tearaways are making the most of the warmer weather and longer evenings, and enjoying classes in the park. Despite the squirrels doing their best to sabotage his efforts, Ralphy stayed focused enough to fly through his IMDT Partnership Grade level 2. Splendid work, that'll show those pesky squirrels!

There's been lots of hard work going on with the baby furry ones recently. They all learnt the basics, in addition to charging through tunnels and over jumps, not to mention learning to track and find a specific scent (in this case, cloves). As you can see, the hard work has paid off and Duke, Isla, Otis, and Teddy have all been awarded the (much-coveted) Cheeky Chihuahua Certificate of Puppy Excellence! Awesome work dudes!

This post is for those in the Cheeky Chihuahua family with 'challenging' dogs, and anyone else who needs a break. I'm sure that you can picture the scene: you're walking to the park with your furry dude emblazoned with so much bright yellow that canaries are reaching are reaching for their sunglasses. Normal members of the human race will see you coming and give you a bit of space, and wish you well. But then, charging out of the blue, comes the dog who has, apparently, brought themselves to the park as there's no owner in sight. And they're heading straight for you. The owner will eventually appear and look up from their phone, and you'll ask them to call their dog away. This is the crunch point: if the first word out of the other owner's mouth isn't, "Sorry", followed by an appropriate explanation, you are officially in the presence of a CONT (crap owner, no training), and the problem is them, not you nor your dog. If I hadn't walked in your shoes, The Cheeky Chihuahua wouldn't be here to help. (Other trainers are available. May contain nuts)

Saturday morning Teenage Tearaways. Of the 5 dogs in the picture, it wasn't too long ago that 4 of them couldn't go near other dogs and/or humans. This wasn't a quick fix, and be wary of anyone who promises such: compassion, patience, and understanding, combined with an ability to work with the dog as an individual, has got these furry dudes to where they are today. Well, that and treats!

PART FOUR: THE BEHAVIOUR TOOLKIT
This is where everything comes together.

Chapter 13: The Art of Assessment (insight, intuition, and information) and Chapter 14: Bridging Insight and Action (creating the right plan for the right dog)

The toolkit is not a step-by-step protocol or a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s a framework, a way of thinking and a foundation to build from regardless of your training philosophy or approach. I've tried really hard to show you how to think rather than tell you what to think.

Because although the labels have changed and multiplied, the dog’s nature hasn’t!
Whether you’re a dog owner wanting to understand your dog on a deeper level, a professional working with dogs, or someone beginning a new career with our four-legged friends - there should be something within just for you. Getting very excited now...

Never fear, The Cheeky Chihuahua is coming to the rescue. Our next 4-week beginners course will start at 11am on Sunday 19th April.

The course will cover all of the essential skills to release your dog's inner sniffer hound, including line handling, gradual progression, and how to keep them on track. This is about you and your dog working together, and it's also bloody good fun!

The course is Β£150, though if you're already part of of our Cheeky Chihuahua family, please ask about your discount.

Duke is buzzing! He's pumped! He's got puppy Scentwork week, and then the glitz and glamour of Puppy Test Week beckons. Our reporter caught up with him after week 4, when Duke mastered the tunnel and jumps, and asked how he felt as we approached the finale of his puppy course. Duke said, "Well, thanks for asking, Rupert. I'm feeling confident, but nothing's won yet. I'm taking things one treat at a time". Wise words from one so young! And such a polite young man!

At one time The Cheeky Chihuahua only worked with rescue dogs, making their world a better place, particularly street dogs from abroad, so it only seems fitting that we should celebrate the rescued dogs within our ranks. We're starting with the handsome Cooper, primarily because his mum's and retired school teacher, and she'll give me a detention if I don't!

Due to a change in circumstances, his original family couldn't keep him, and he ended up in a rescue centre for 4 months. He then met his wonderful new owners, starting at Teenage Tearaways very soon after his adoption, and hasn't looked back. He's passed his first two IMDT Partnership Grades, and has just about got everything ticked off for the 3rd. He's also turned his paw to Mantrailing, and loves tracking down his human prey, provided they're bearing cheese mantrailingdog

It seems impossible to believe, but Benji, our resident baby Lion, wouldn't let me in the house when we first met. And he didn't care much for other male dogs. Fast forward to today, I've kept all of my fingers and I'm officially Benji's Uncle Mark! Oh, and he's also whizzed through his IMDT Partnership Grade level 1. His mummy and Auntie Jan are, quite rightly, very proud
