Here’s to all the dog walkers who have had to cancel walks this week.

To the ones living paycheck to paycheck, making the heartbreaking decision to put the welfare of the dogs first — even when rent is due, bills are piling up, and the food shop still needs paying for.

You are my heroes.

I feel incredibly lucky that my main outgoings are my vehicles, because I know for so many others, these weather extremes are hitting hard. And sadly, this is becoming our new normal — wet winters, unbearable spring and summer heat, one extreme after another.

Over the couple of years, so many new dog walkers have started their businesses, stepping into this industry at one of the toughest times imaginable.

The weather hasn’t just affected our income — it’s affected our mental health too. The stress, the uncertainty, the constant worry… it takes its toll.

And on top of all that, the cost of living has risen so dramatically.

Fuel costs, vehicle maintenance, insurance, food prices, rent, mortgages, utilities — everything has gone up, while many of us are earning less because of cancelled walks and unsafe temperatures.

It’s an exhausting balance trying to keep a business afloat while also trying to survive personally. For so many dog walkers, it feels like no matter how hard we work, we’re constantly trying to catch up.

But still, we keep going.

Why?

Because this is more than just a job to us. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a passion. It’s something we pour our whole hearts into every single day.

No matter the weather, no matter the setbacks, we continue showing up because we love these dogs like they’re our own.

So to every dog walker struggling quietly this week — I see you, I respect you, and I hope you’re proud of yourself for putting the dogs first, even when it costs you.

🐾 Client Story: Pip’s Journey Back to Feeling His Best

1️⃣ The Problem
Pip is a lovely 3-year-old dog who has always been quite reactive to noises when out on walks. His owner wanted to explore whether there might be an underlying physical reason for this behaviour, so they booked in for an initial physiotherapy assessment.

During Pip’s examination, it became clear that he was carrying a lot of tension through his lower back and hips, with very tight muscles in these areas. Discomfort can sometimes contribute to behavioural changes, so our goal was to help Pip feel more comfortable in his body.

2️⃣ My Approach
With sensitive dogs like Pip, taking things slowly and positively is really important. Every session starts with treats to help him feel relaxed and safe in the environment.

We begin with red light therapy to gently warm and relax the muscles before moving on to massage techniques focusing on his lower back and hips. Once those areas start to loosen, we introduce gentle stretching and some simple exercises such as treat-guided stretches, circles, and balance work on the wobble cushion.

Of course, every session ends the best way possible — more treats and a fuss for being such a good boy. 🐶

3️⃣ The Outcome
The change in Pip has been wonderful to see. His muscles are much looser, he’s carrying far less tension, and he’s noticeably less reactive to noises. Most importantly, Pip just seems like a happier and more relaxed dog.

He’s doing so well that he and his owner are now preparing to restart agility together, with regular maintenance physio sessions to keep his muscles happy and healthy.

4️⃣ Owner Testimonial
“Pip is having physio with Kayleigh as he can struggle with sore muscles in his back end. When they are quite uncomfortable for him, Pip becomes more reactive on walks.

Since having physio with Kayleigh, Pip is so much happier and back to his calmer self. Kayleigh has been great at taking things at a comfortable pace for Pip, and now she can even offer him some deep tissue massage.

He was so sleepy and relaxed after our last appointment. Highly recommend!”

Check out Pips video coming next week 🐶🥰
