Hot weather can be dangerous for pets – and heatstroke can develop much faster than many owners realise.
As temperatures rise across Somerset, it's important to know the warning signs and what to do if your pet gets into difficulty.
Signs of heatstroke can include:
Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
Excessive drooling
Lethargy, weakness or collapse
Vomiting or diarrhoea
Rapid heart rate
Rabbits and small pets are particularly vulnerable, as they cannot cool themselves effectively and often show more subtle signs.
Knowing how to recognise heatstroke early and what first aid steps to take could make all the difference while you seek veterinary advice.
