🌟 Giuseppe is a special pet of the month 🌟 He belongs to Jamie our fantastic receptionist here at Harris Hill & Gibbons! ☎️

He first presented to us in April when his owners noticed he was jaundiced (yellow discolouration of the skin). He was otherwise completely well in himself. 🐱

A blood test revealed he was severely anaemic. His bloods were sent to a specialist to evaluate whether his anaemia was regenerative- his body is making new red blood cells but cannot keep up with demand vs his body his not making new red blood cells. 🩸

Amongst other tests this helped us with his diagnosis of IMHA (immune mediated haemolytic anaemia). Giuseppe’s immune system is mistakenly attacking and destroying his own red blood cells- but he can make new RBCs, just not quick enough. 🏥

We started him on aggressive steroid treatment to try and suppress his immune system, so that the body could generate new blood cells without his immune system then attacking them. Unfortunately, this alone was only able to maintain his current very low RBC count but not increase it. 🐈

Since then, he has been on multiple treatment trials and is currently on a combination of steroids and another potent immunosuppressive. 💊

He is not out of the woods yet but is able to maintain his current red blood cell count and his body has learnt to cope with this. 🩸

Throughout, he has been the kindest and bravest cat we know and never holds a grudge. Despite weekly bloods for the past 3 months so this is very much well deserved!! 💉

Well done Giuseppe, we all think you’re amazing! 🧡💛💚

The wonderful Norman owned by our Head Nurse Bex, was surgically castrated last week. This was at our Bradford on Avon branch by our amazing vet Kirsten. Bex monitored his anaesthetic throughout the procedure and kept him warm and snuggled under a blanket while he was recovering and he’s definitely back to his normal crazy self! 🐶

You can chat with any of our friendly reception team, to book in a free of charge pre-neutering check, with one of our vets at any of our 4 branches! ☎️

⭐ Maria - Registered Veterinary Nurse ⭐

We wanted to celebrate with you all the wonderful news that after all her hard work Maria is now a fully Qualified RVN 🩺

Maria wanted to tell you abit about herself and why she chose to train to be an RVN:

‘I have always cared for animals; I used to help with my cat’s daily medication. 💊 I actually ended up working at the vets he was treated at when I first started my nursing journey.

My clinical nursing interests include small mammal care and medical nursing/inpatient care. 🐁 🐹

I have the most amazing pet rats at home which take up a majority of my spare time, but I do also enjoy attending music concerts and computer gaming! ‘ 🐀 🎶 🖥️

We are just simply overjoyed to see Maria doing what she loves and your little tiny furries are in the best hands when she is around!

Well done from all of us at HHG! 🥳

We hope everyone has a great time! 🥳

🌟 Zeze is our next pet of the month! 🌟

Zeze first presented to us beginning of April with vomiting, lethargy and abdominal pain. Treating her with anti-nausea and pain relief made no improvement therefore we started diagnostics. 👩‍⚕️ 👨‍⚕️

On an ultrasound scan it revealed changes to her pancreas with material like foreign bodies in her stomach. She underwent surgery to remove this material and check the rest of the abdomen. 🚨

It revealed severe inflammation of the pancreas in which we were worried the tissue was dying.
We initially struggled to control Zeze’s pain levels. She was on multiple continuous rate infusions for pain relief. 💉

These made her sleepy and therefore she was reluctant to eat. To be able to heal the intestines we needed food in her asap. We therefore placed an oesophagostomy tube (feeding tube straight into oesophagus) to be able to give her liquid foods every 4 hours. 🕰️

Zeze was hospitalised for 9 days until we could control her pain levels with oral medications and send her home. She was able to be discharged with her feeding tube in and her owner feed her every 4 hours at home. 🏥

Zeze was a model patient. She never once complained, tolerated every scan, blood test and was always happy to see us for cuddles. Even now coming in for regular check-ups and the removal of her feeding tube she sat perfectly still. 😇

We are very proud of you Zeze and your amazing recovery. 🧡 ❤️
